We don’t normally reserve sites, but figured we had to to visit Yellowstone (Not true: there is a first come, first serve, 72 site, FS campground called Baker’s Hole nearby that has a few electric sites that is closer to town and all paved roads, but also along the highway. Cellular service poor, but might work with booster. Several sites open on a Tuesday night in late August). Now Rainbow Point: The road in was rough (3-5 mph for 2 miles) with washboard and potholes. Not as bad in a car going to and from the park, but it surprised us going in. Campsites are spaced out nicely, but a little short and tight to fit your 2nd vehicle. Good Verizon cell service that becomes excellent with Weboost. Water for containers only and vault toilets. Trash collection and recycling. No dump.
Yellowstone is a large park, so I would recommend to move campgrounds every few days to be able to see the whole park and stop at all the recommended sites. If in one locations, you will have some VERY long days if you want to see it all. We’ve been here before, so we were fine skipping some stuff this time. Oh, and there is a boat ramp and lake with beach right here at the campground, but we didn’t have time for that.

We stayed in site B7 for two nights in August 2020. This site is barely big enough for a 30' travel trailer. I had to park my truck across the street. They do an excellent job of keeping this campground clean. There was a lady that was raking a campsite as soon as the previous tenants left. Our campsite was extremely clean and raked. The negatives are the mosquitos are really, really, really bad. Deet does nothing to them nor does an enormous fire. We got eaten alive just being outside for 5 minutes at dusk. I would not stay there again because of this. There is also no dump station so if you plan to stay more than 2 nights, be aware. Verizon cell service was excellent.
Huge negative: They have these concrete pillars that are about a foot tall all around your campsite. It makes maneuvering your truck/trailer very difficult. They should remove those. They provide absolutely no benefit and making it super frustrating to get everything positioned right.

Water available near entrance on north side of road prior to the campground kiosk.

We had 3 sites in the B electric loop. We had campfires at night and the morning with no bugs. This was our launch site for seeing Yellowstone. Short walk to the lake. Road in is a little rough but not bad.

So to start off the road to this camp ground is dirt and parts of it had some nasty washboard so we took it really really slow to not beat up our toy hauler that is 43 feet long.
Once at the campground their is water at the entrance only. So while at the camp sites you will be 100% dry camping. There is NO dump station at the entire campground either.
The loops to the camp grounds had huge pot holes in them that were full of mud and water and after spending 5 hours washing and wax the toy hauler I wasn’t to please to be flinging mud up onto the toy hauler.
The camp site we got was nice and was able to fit our toy hauler with the slides out but not all the camp sites can accommodate large trailers and RV’s.
Once settled in at the camp site they have fire pits, table and a grill that swings over the fire pit. Camp sites are pretty close to each other so don’t expect to much privacy but if you get on the outter side of the loops they go straight into thick forests.
At night be prepared to break out the mosquito repellent. The campground sits within a 1 minute walk to a lake so the mosquito’s in late June when we camped were everywhere. We didn’t put on bug spray and all of us on night one were bitten at minimum 8-12 times.
The lake is nice and seemed like a great place to fish off the shore but we didn’t come prepared for the mosquito and had to abaonded our fishing. Also for licensing the lake sits in MONTANA, so make sure you purchase the correct fishing license.
At the campground we did not have any Verizon cell phone service on our iPhones or our home phone base station inside the toy hauler. In order to get service we walked down to the lake and stood on the shore where we were able to get 2 bars of 3G which allowed us to send texts and make phone calls.
Overall the experience wasn’t bad if you like camping in campgrounds. For us we like camping in open areas not in campgrounds so we probably won’t be coming back.

What a great campground. Totally nestled in the trees but WITH electricity! This was a new experience for us and I assumed that if it had electricity, it would have water too! NOPE! We have since learned and now plan accordingly. Thankfully we have a little pump to add water to the trailer if needed. They also have a fresh water filling station at the entrance to the campground (If we would have known before we setup!!!) It is a bit of a drive off a bumpy road then onto a dirt road for about 6 miles total off the highway. Obviously NO traffic noise! Just a 10 minute drive into town. Site C21 was a bit backward. It's a backin site, but the table and fire pit are on the same side as the electrical hookups, so we were walking around the back of our trailer to get there. Just a bit different. Vault Toilet. There is basically NO CELL SERVICE out here! It would flicker in once in a while, but just plan on being out of touch! Also bring the Bug Spray.
