First come first serve. The camp host, Greg, is pretty on top of things. Ask him if anyone is leaving. He's pretty casual about checkout time, so you might get a site later in the day if someone leaves, but I'd plan on getting there around 11-12. He also doesn't mind if you stay longer than 2 weeks if you behave. If you want a lakeside... more
First come first serve. The camp host, Greg, is pretty on top of things. Ask him if anyone is leaving. He's pretty casual about checkout time, so you might get a site later in the day if someone leaves, but I'd plan on getting there around 11-12. He also doesn't mind if you stay longer than 2 weeks if you behave. If you want a lakeside site, pay day to day until you score one. The vault toilets are clean. The mountain biking trails run right through camp. I think this CG is the most quiet on the lake. You can't hear the interstate quite as much as in the others. The vault toilets were spotless. It's basically a parking lot. There are fire rings and picnic tables off the back of each site.

If you’re checking out Heaton Bay and Peak One campground I chose this one as it is FCFS and large spaces. Yes it is a parking lot but thats only for the camper and truck. If you’re checking out Heaton Bay and Peak One campground I chose this one as it is FCFS and large spaces. Yes it is a parking lot but thats only for the camper and truck. Behind it on both sides is where the fire pit and table are along with the lake if you’re lucky enough to get a spot there or trees on the other side. Camp host was very friendly and helpful about the area. Warned about the moose and how they like to kill dogs so beware! Camping at just under 9000 feet is great, no AC needed and plenty of solar power. Vault toilet is clean

Convenient location, close to Frisco. Overnight fee is now $26! Seems expensive for dry camping, but is does have direct access to Lake Dillon, mountain biking, and Disc Golfing. Very few trees.

As others have said, this is a parking lot but with that said, it is a good place to park. Spaces are large, price is reasonable, and it’s first come first serve. All other area cg’s in the area we full. It’s a great location for exploring the area. We’d stay again

On a Friday afternoon with no planning and every other campground in the state is full, this parking lot with picnic tables and fire rings on the reservoir is pretty dang nice. Several sites open

This is a parking lot with camp sites defined between the yellow lines allowing you to park two vehicles there. This is a parking lot with camp sites defined between the yellow lines allowing you to park two vehicles there. We had our trailer and truck and still had room to sit on the blacktop under our awning. We talked to the host who was fantastic and got a site on Saturday morning without issue. The host was great and really wanted to help get us on the water side. We were able to launch kayaks from right in front of our site. We couldn't get into any other campground and had stayed in the Prospector overflow lot the night before. This was a big upgrade!
There is potable water near the bathrooms. The bathrooms seemed clean, the only thing I smelled was cleaner or some sort of air freshener when getting water but I never went in. There are good walk-in tent sites on the water side towards the south end. If you can get in on the water side it's great, the parking lot side is not as good but it will work just fine. The host was happy to allow people to switch sites if a better one freed up.
The biggest negative is that people are right next to each other. We had a couple that was tent camping and their tent was setup essentially right outside our trailer door. We were sitting around under the awning while it was raining and felt like we were right next to them. It was actually better if we had a trailer/RV next to us since it would have given us a little private space. There are a lot of generators unfortunately but they didn't run them during quiet hours.
Cell service is spectacular. On Visible (Verizon) in the middle of the day I was able to get 130Mbps/25Mbps on my phone and 27Mbps/4Mbps on T-Mobile both with 30ms or less latency. This whole area would work well if you need to work, the cell towers are north towards I-70.

The camp ground is nothing fancy. First come, first serve. Essentially a converted parking lot. And there are no hook-ups, which we knew. BUT the view are amazing and it is close to Frisco and Breckenridge. Has decent Verizon service (hotspot) but minimal T-Mobile (phone).

They take senior and handicapped passes, not annual interagency. Please, keep your tow vehicle and your rig in your slot. Hanging out in the road is not cool. They take senior and handicapped passes, not annual interagency. Please, keep your tow vehicle and your rig in your slot. Hanging out in the road is not cool. About a third of the slots are taken with people tenting in the grass, which is fine. There's very few trees though. There are about five or six actual walk in tent sites at the far end, which about half the time their parking spaces are taken up by van campers, which seems a waste. Anyhoo, the two vault toilets are kept very clean. There is potable water for jugs by the vault toilet in the day parking lot. Currently, there is a sandy beach at the far end of the parking lot due to the lake being so low, which is nice. It's a nice sheltered cove for boating. The interstate is a long way away across the lake so you can see it but not hear it. If you want to score a lakeside slot, then just pay day to day so you can move when one opens up. If you are on the not lake side, then it's less crowded during the week. We got here on a Wednesday and there was plenty of room. Thursday night, there were only three slots open. Friday morning, it filled up. Today is Wednesday and it is full again, but it was 100 in Denver today, so I'm not surprised. The original camp host quit, so the Peak One hosts were doing a great job. The new host Robert arrived yesterday. We got to know him when he was hosting Shelf Road when we were there last month. I think he will be a good host here as well. The only negatives are the close neighbors with generators and lots of smoke from campfires. The cell service seems to get jammed up on the weekend.

Great area to stay on the water for a few nights. There were only 5 or 6 other cars/RVs in the parking lot which made for a mostly quiet night. Other than that it was relatively quiet with just a little bit of noise from the highway across the reservoir. Camp hosts are super kind and helpful. Bundles of wood are available at the next campground over for $7ea. Bathrooms were typical vault toilets with no sinks, there was potable water, and trash cans/dumpsters available!
