Road in wasn't great, rocks, potholes and washboard, but take it slow and it's fine. It was wonderful to have a nice view, with only a biking trail between me and the view. In Oct. not many people riding at all, even during the beautiful weather. Will stay here again. Also, 1 mile away towards I80, the rest area has potable water free.

I arrived on University of Wyoming homecoming game day and was worried that an open spot in highly rated dispersed camping was a long shot. In short time, I found a gorgeous spot on top of the hill with sunset view toward Laramie and could see the lights of Cheyenne to the east after nightfall. Aspens were changing to striking gold among the pines. With the exception of a pair of hikers and some cowboys doing fall roundup (awesome to see), we had loads of privacy. Will definitely visit again!

The road is gravel in a little bit wash boarded, but went slow and no problem in my 170 sprinter high roof. The site is at a top of the hill with views all around and a couple of stone fire rings. No one else was here. It was a bit gusty in the evening and morning, but Level parking and perfect If you need great cell service.

Such an easy spot to get to, right off of 80.
We needed good internet for work and this delivered for meetings on-line and also a quick escape to explore.
Next time, we hope to not be in such a hurry so we can check out Laramie.
Also of note; we didn't see any trash or dog poop. We were also diligent to leave.no.trace!

This was a great spot to stay in!! Quite a few bugs but otherwise amazing. Very quiet and lots of space to spread out.
This was definitely a great spot and with great service to work in was also awesome. Fairly easy to get to, and any size rig can fit.

There are hundreds of miles of well maintained roads to choose from with thousands of dispersed camping areas throughout Medicine Bow NF. If you have a large RV, avoid the Vedauwoo area. It's small and cramped. Instead, head to the Abraham Lincoln memorial on I80. From there, you can get any size rig deep into the forest to camp.

The dispersed spots along West Pilot Peak Rd (NFS Rd 703 across from the Tie City Trailhead and Campground) are at around 8,800 feet and have incredible views to the east. The high altitude has tons of UV rays but air temps are typically in the 70s during the day and in the low 60s at night in late July, early August. A wonderful reprieve from the heat. There are several spots among the trees. Several spots are also nestled in among myriad radio towers. The first 1/2 mile of the road has smooth, exposed rock in a few places but is passable by just about anything.
Once you get to the intersection of Road 703 and Road 714, the sky's the limit for dispersed camping throughout the rest of the Pole Mountain region of Medicine Bow National Forest.
Typically super quiet but if the wind is right, you can hear some loud semi-trucks from I80.
It's Wyoming, so yes it'll be windy but that helps keep things cool and helps keep the bugs away. Night skies are awesome!
