We could have gone further done the road but one of the last pullouts suited us well. Nice spot other than the desert means business with all those thorns. Our dog caught a few off those nasty falloff thorn ' cushions'. The guy honking at every RV is still around. If it makes him happy. Rained on one day and then the dirt gets a little... more

Our dog caught a few off those nasty falloff thorn ' cushions'. The guy honking at every RV is still around. If it makes him happy. Rained on one day and then the dirt gets a little messy with a dog around.
You need the permit, easy via internet $15 single person, $20 for family per year of State Trust Land usage. The site otherwise $0

As others mentioned already, it is a very (!) popular route for weekender, hiker and ATV's (not sure why they can't make them less noisy...) With all this cars, trucks and ATV's it is very dusty and noisy during the day. Some truck drivers found it amusing to speed up or even honk while passing camps late at night. About 6 miles in, the road has some major dips from 2022 winter storms, I am sure they will fix it at some point. Also 6+ miles in you can find spots off the road, which are much more quiet and less dusty.
I only would consider it as an overnighter on-route because it's such easy access off 60.

The area has beautiful scenery and good hiking. Dirt road that accesses the dry camping area is very busy since tons of cars drive to its end to access a popular hiking trail. The traffic is pretty steady all day long and stops about an hour after sunset. The nights are quiet and dark.

The road is really bad driving in. Like the previous reviewer said, people do boondock in the pullouts by the road but that is very trafficky and dusty when someone is going by. It's ok for a night if you want to hike too but it's not a good stay for a longer time.

The Peralta Road Dispersed area is been closed for restoration and rehabilitation. A new, barbed wire fence has been put up and effectively blocks access to the group camping area. However, there were several RV's parked in pullouts along side the road where I parked for the evening. It was relatively quiet with just an occasional car going by. Fortunately it had rained yesterday afternoon so there was no dust. It would be a nice area if they ever open it up. It is flat and beautiful scenery all around. Excellent cell coverage.

“WARNING: Roadside being removed...”
noted 4/10/2023
This morning (4/10/2023) a Sheriff's deputy stopped to tell me that a) I was in between two signs (soil reclamation) and shouldn't be, would need to move. He also proceeded to tell me that, very shortly, they are going to pave that road leading to the Peralta Trailhead and they would be completely removing the roadside pullouts. Not sure about some of the other deeper areas, but be warned.
