Our first time to the Outer Banks and so glad we chose this campground. Great location for exploring. Easy to hit the new Publix supermarket at Nags Head. Close to the tourist stops at Kitty Hawk and Roanoke Island and also the remote and much more isolated areas south along the Banks. About one hour to Cape Hatteras which we wanted to visit. Museum there (Graveyard of the Atlantic) was both eclectic and interesting. Walked the beach there at nearly high tide and knowing the history that was made there around Diamond Shoals (over 400 wrecks) was very powerful.
Campground bathrooms are immaculate. No hot showers, so be advised. No hook-ups BUT we were told they are installing water and electric later this year. The price will go up from $28 to $35 (and half that with the Senior Access Pass) but it is still a bargain for the location, location, location. There is huge construction nearby on the Bonner bridge but at night, it's quiet here. Sites are paved and some in better shape than others. As others noted, it can be a tight fit for bigger rigs. Our 25' Airstream and Ford 150 just squeezed onto the site, so be advised.
Highly recommend making reservations especially after mid-May when the season ramps up. Will stay here again.

Oregon Inlet campground is one of the very few tent friendly camp sites in the Outer banks. This was our first time camping there and it was absolutely wonderful. The bathroom and shower facilities are some of the best of ever experienced. They have warm water and flushing toilets. The sand has spurs so shoes/sandals are necessary [its just the way the dunes are] The sites have pathways to the beach and its about a 5 min walk through the dunes. It's very scenic. The staff/park rangers are extremely friendly and helpful. There are lots of flies and mosquitoes so be sure to bring bug spray. There's no shade so be sure to bring umbrellas/pop up gazebos. Lots of sunscreen if you're easily burnt. If you're okay with some heat and bugs this place is for you! You might as well have you're own private beach while you're there. I would definitely camp here again.

Oregon Inlet Campground, in Cape Hatteras National Seashore is nicely located for exploring the Outer Banks. It's far enough away from the craziness of Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills yet close enough to pop into Nags Head for shopping, groceries or restaurants. Go south and there are miles of isolated beaches and wildlife areas on Pea Island. Not too bad of a drive down to Hatteras Light either. Bodie Island Lighthouse is just a few miles up the road. Don't miss seeing the catch of the day off the charter boats across the road at the marina.
This is a great place to experience oceanfront camping in a natural environment.
The campground is wide open, mostly grassy, fairly level sites with paved pads. Some of the pads can be a tight squeeze for larger rigs with toads, all vehicles must be parked on the pad. The office has a listing of the pad length for each site. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. No hookups, water and dump station are at the marina. Restrooms were nice and clean. Showers also clean, water was warm enough in mid September. Bring a light to use at the showers at night.
It is a 5 minute walk over very the dunes to the ocean. Expect windy conditions and no shade. Bugs can be a problem, mostly after sunset. No-see-ums will go through just about any screen and the mosquitos can be fierce so be prepared. I wouldn't let them stop me from staying here though, it is a special place!
Some road noise even for sites away from the road but traffic is minimal during the night.
We had good internet from AT&T.
