We camped here in November of 2022. We started out in a dry camping site C-8 for 4 or so nights ($14 with senior pass) - it was right up against the dunes, so we had a lot of sand in our site and trailer (courtesy of dog). With rain incoming, we then added several nights in C-19 to have power and water ($21 with senior pass). Then added more nights in C-24. Easy to do on the recreation.gov website. In the off-season, there is no 14 day stay limit! Nice access to the beach, nice ranger & camphosts and lots to see & do within an hour.
There is no privacy between sites (no foliage) and some sites are closer to others, but we loved it.
We did have some noise from the highway and some from the building they were roofing across the street.
Speaking of across the street, best to look on Google Earth to see where the dump station is as it is across the street by the sportfishing boats.
The tent loop and north section of B loop have lot of little stickers which we had to pull out of our dog's paws. No where near as many stickers in the lower end of the C loop. We actually put booties on her when we walked on the dune trails in the B loop.
We would definitely camp here again especially in the off-season!

We had reserved site B33, electric & water, close to the very clean and modern restroom & shower house (outdoor type)… maybe too close as some folks chose to walk thru our site to get there, one person actually walked between the picnic table and our camper. Stay of 4 nights cost $84 with the senior discount which does not discount the electric, but still, $21 a night is a great price.
We arrived late, found a big sign that stated RESERVATIONS ONLY… confused as the confirmation email said we needed to have a copy of our reservation, why? What you are supposed to do is go directly to your site where you will find a place card on the site post with your name and checkout date and in a plastic bag, your hang-tag and map/rules of the campground. This is done for everyone not just late check-ins. We received a phone call from the office the next day, they thought we hadn’t arrived (you could see us from their window) to check on us, offer/remind us if not coming, to cancel and possibly get some money refunded, this also would open the site back up for someone else.
Others have said the sites were close together… I’d disagree, we’ve been in some commercial parks that you could hear your neighbor’s breathing at night, not here. The ocean is a very long hike over the dunes, the road noise is there, but very little at night, we could hear the waves crashing on the beach. As for the dump-station, there are small signs directing and if you stop in the office, they have high-lighted the route over to it, it is very easy to find, there is fresh water available there also. Restroom/bath house was well cleaned daily. The only complaint, no wood fires allowed, really missed the smell of a campfire.
NOTE: MAPS on iPhone will take you to the wrong place, about 2 miles away... don't get lost

The campground is right in the dunes and a short walk to a wide beach yet right off the main highway. The sites are tighter than many national parks and there are limited trees and shrubs so your neighbors are important. There are some tent campers mixed with small and large RVs as well as big rigs. Several generators ran during the day in the non-electric section (including ours, occasionally 😳) but otherwise the campground was quiet. Sunrise over the dunes is spectacular. Campground is very clean and well maintained. ORV access to the beach is close.

Th eCG is just off Hwy 12 (the main N/S route on the barrier island) and road noise is noticeable. It was quite windy when we visited and cooking outside proved impossible. The beach appeared to be pretty beat-up, probably due to storms. On the positive side it does have water and electric sites.
Note that our rate reflects our Sr. Pass for the National Parks System. Still much more reasonable than the $100+ at the nearby KOA.

The price is good but it is mostly dry camping... but yes you are basically on the beach, so the location is great if you just want to spend time on the beach. I stayed here in early April 2022 and the campground was 90% full. The sites with electric/water seem to get booked months in advance, even for the off season. I don't think any of the sites have sewer. There is a dump station and fresh water available for free right across the street at the marina.
The sites have an ok amount of space between them but the road through the park is very narrow, and the paved pads are too short to park a truck in front of most TTs. If you have anything more than a 20 ft TT you will have trouble parking your TV. It was tricky navigating all the cars and trucks along (and in) the road while trying to get to my site.
Most of the sites have no hookups. I was there in early April and even though the temperature was in the low 50s there were multiple generators running all day long.
It just felt very crowded and was not a relaxing experience at all. If the weather allows you to spend the entire day on the beach (a few hundred yards away and out of earshot of the generators) then you may have a great experience here. I did not. If you want to do something other than the beach you will need to drive at least 15 min.
The real attraction IMO is an hour south at the Cape Hatteras area. I've stayed at privately owned campgrounds and the national park down there and it was a whole different experience. That's were I'll be going next time too.

Just like the other campgrounds in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Oregon Inlet is such great campground. The bathrooms and campground are clean. And so are the showers! Recreation.gov states that this campground has “heated showers.” I checked the water temperature in the shower by B28 and the water sure as heck is...lukewarm. I’ll take it! The outside temperature is mid-60s in the mornings
right now (April) so the lukewarm water isn’t a shock to the system! We didn’t have to shower in the van at this campground! Also a change to this campground from the others is the availability of water and power hookups at certain sites. Ours was not one of them. Although to dump you still need to go to the dump station across the street from the campground. The official map actually tells you where to find it this time. The beach is near the campground on the other side of the dune but it’s a longer walk than you might think. Also beware of sand spurs. They aren’t as bad as they were at Frisco but still present.
