We stayed here one night mainly to be able to visit White Sands National Park. First of all this was a very nice campground with very friendly and informative camp hosts. We were lucky as the power and water had been out for the entire previous week, but the day we arrived, both were turned on. There were just a few minor issues that made me give it 4 stars.
We were in site 24 and with our 27 ft 5th wheel and we wanted to be able to use the hook ups so where we had to put our trailer was VERY unlevel. I would say at least 4-5 inches from side to side and a good 16" or more from front to back. It took awhile, but we managed to get level enough. I looked at other sites and people were using blocks to level, but they weren't near as bad as our site, #24. It was a nice roomy site though, and we had a beautiful view. There was a very nice picnic table and the hook-ups worked fine.
The one other small issue was around 5:00 o'clock after the rangers left, a LOT of people who were boondocking and/or living at the dispersed camping site down the road came to use the showers (even though they didn't pay). This went on for hours and they made a lot of noise. There were a few parents who felt it was necessary to drop lots of loud F-bombs at their kids as they were continuously yelling at them.
The camp host told me it's really becoming a problem with people coming after the rangers leave and using the showers, filling water containers and dumping trash without paying. I felt bad for him because it's not his job to police these people. The camp hosts we met were both really nice and friendly BTW.
Since all the noise was bugging me, I went on a walk around the campground and found a nice little trail behind the vault toilets that led to a pretty spring. It was a very enjoyable short hike and I recommend it. I think it was called Lawson Spring.
Since check out isn't until 2:00PM we got up early in the morning and drove to White Sands NP which is about 30 minutes away. We did a few hikes, some sand sledding, drove the loop, checked out the visitor center and were still back at the campground by 12:30 to pack up and go so that is doable.
I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area, but I would pick a different campsite that was more level and away from the shower room.
