We stayed here for a long first weekend in November 2023. This was our 2nd camping trip here and our first since they added some FHU sites, which we got.
They have 3 loops, Lake, Wooded and Paved. The paved loop has the FHU sites and 3 FHU buddy sites. Appears they close the lake loop for the winter. It would be challenging getting level in the lake loop sites. Our site, 122, we had to raise the left side of the TT ½ inch to level which isn’t bad. Some of the days are packed in rather close to each other. For FHU sites I would recommend 114, 117, 119 and 120. For non FHU I would recommend 87, 38, 16, 5 or 38.
This park is a hiker’s paradise. There are 7 trails listed, however there are really 8. For some reason they don’t mention the Palmetto Trail. There are also tons of hiking nearby outside of the park. Lots of waterfalls as well. At this time this area is in a drought and the waterfalls may not be worth the effort. For instance, we went to Issaqueena Falls and it was not impressive. We have seen it before when it was impressive.
The bathrooms could use some updating.
All utilities at site were good and placement of them was logical.
The park has a new updated playground along with an older one next to it. They also have the last SC Park miniature golf course.
Nice little store where you check in at. Cell phone service may be an issue. The first time we stayed here we would go to the store and sit on the porch to use the Wi-Fi to plan our day. This trip we had no issues getting cell service with AT&T. While the cell service wasn’t the fastest it was better than a lot of Wi-Fi in hotels we have stayed at.
The nearest town is Walhalla and is a thriving little town. The Oconee Country Museum is worth a visit. I have seen some complaints that there is no shopping nearby. There is a Ingles grocery store about 12 miles away. I consider this close. It is an EXCELLENT grocery store. There is also a Wal-Mart about 18 miles away. There is plenty of shopping within the area.
Table Rock used to be our favorite mountain SP in SC, however Oconee has now taken that spot. Table Rock is an iconic mountain to behold, but Oconee has more to offer in the area. It is a SP in the mountains so be prepared to do some serious leveling. The sites I mentioned above should be doable.

There are some good RV sites, 107, 109, 112. But most re crowded and badly sloped, even if paved. The best sites are for tents. Laundry is closed. Wifi only at office, otherwise no cell. Good hiking trails lead from campground. Staff is most pleasant and accommodating. All together a great place to stay.

This is a great campground. Sites are very roomy. The park rangers make their rounds every couple of hours. Very clean. They have a small mini golf, playground, lake activities. They have insane hiking trails from beginner to 76 miles. I do not remember seeing a laundry facility. Would definitely come back.

We enjoyed our stay here. The bath houses are well maintained and clean and the camp sites were clean and well maintained. It’s easy to access and so many great hikes are right nearby. Camp staff pick up trash at your campsite twice a day. Including recycling. Friendly staff and hosts.

This is one of the older, CCC-constructed state parks. It could use some updating but is a good spot to camp if you are into a more rustic environment. The sites tend to be somewhat close together, and some are sloped enough to require serious leveling. There are amenities for children in season including programs, a mini golf course, and a playground along with a swimming pond. The Trading Post mostly sells souvenirs and snacks so don’t count on it for essentials. There is a Dollar General a few miles south on SC 107 that sells good firewood and groceries.
The bathhouses have screened openings and make for brisk showers in cooler weather. The electrical hookups are 30 amp, and the water pressure was good. While the park is a bit tired, we would stay here again.

We camped here in early March, so some of the loops were closed. Please bear in mind that my rating is based only on this experience. We would have preferred something on gravel near the water, but we got a paved pad with close neighbors and not much of view (closest loop to the check-in station). That's something to keep in mind if you camp during off-peak seasons. We did have water and 30 amp electricity, but no sewage hook-up. I'm sure this place can accommodate large rigs. The staff picked up trash at each site every day, which was a bonus. There was a fire ring. Our site was right next to the camp host in that loop, but he/she didn't appear to be there at the time, and there was a large, loud group of folks camping near us which didn't help our experience. I can't remember seeing a bathroom near our site, but I know we walked by some bathrooms in the other loops. While the actual camp site did not offer much, the park was quite large and very pretty. We were able to walk all around the lake. There was a swimming area with paddle boats (closed at that time of year). I'm thinking this state park would be good for folks with kids in the summer. For hikers, the Foothills Trail is not very far from this park. I believe there is also a lot of white water rafting in the area. AT&T coverage was in and out.
