Made my reservation on Reserve America. Finding the campground is pretty easy. The interior roads are all paved. Check in was simple, I was in loop A on site 10. The loop has bathrooms on each end with showers. The facilities were well cared for. My site was level, only needed minor adjustments and there was a fire pit with a picnic table. There is no electric, no sewer and no water hook up. There is a dump station in the park and water spigots to fill RV tanks or jugs. Cell service was strong, I was able to hook my phone to my TV on rainy nights to stream a movie. Although this is a state campground and there was patrols going around they tended to leave folks alone. There was a bear warning when I was there but I saw no bears or evidence of bears. Nicks Lake is a good paddle, has a trail around the lake for hiking, a beach and a playground. The sites are spread out enough on the A loop for decent privacy but you can still hear and observe your neighbors.
Nicks Lake is just a few miles outside of Old Forge NY. There are gas and groceries there as well as many stores, restaurants, hiking trails, paddling and also the home to Water Safari. Old Forge is the gateway into the central Adirondacks.

We would definitely stay here again. There are no hook ups but if you are self contained, you’ll like it. They have free hot showers, dish washing sink and an east dump and fill station for RV’s.
We had site 92 which had a little bit of a water view and was nice and private. We had to block up the front wheels a bit to get level.
During this time of year the A and B loops were closed but they said we could camp in there with no bathrooms in use in those loops. That was a good offer for privacy but we wanted near the water.
Great state park, clean free hot showers and clean bathrooms. Staff were very welcoming as well.

It is close to Old Forge and some good mountain biking. We would definitely stay again.
We had straight talk for cell service and it was 3 bars.

Really pretty campground, almost all sites are deep in the trees. Most have pretty good separation and there are some sweet ones in E loop with views of the water. All sites are primitive and with all the tree cover there is no chance for solar (at least in October) so be prepared for generator use. They do do a nice job of limiting generator hours to just 5 hours of the day so you don't have to hear them all the time. While we were there the weather was mostly cloudy and wet so it was a bit dreary and dark, I'm sure summer would be better.
Showers were individual rooms and clean but the water was not hot enough. Wish that they had some dog waste stations around since the only trash was all the way at the front of the campground.
Verizon and AT&T were both 4G, on VZN we got 13 down and 5 up.
