“Vehicle Sites Inadequate.”

Had booked vehicle site 7 for my 20 foot camper van. Arrived late in the afternoon, and went around loop twice, hoping I had made a mistake in identifying the site the first time around. No mistake, V7 was about a 4 foot wide spot next to a steep drop off. Parking off the road as much as possible still left me blocking the road. I called the office number and left a voicemail. In the meantime , spoke to another camper who had stayed there previously and she advised that the staff was very frustrated and helpful and should just find another spot to park. All the vehicle spots were reserved and V6 was just behind V7. Ended up at site #31. Finally got a call back around sunset and was advised that since I was parked at a tent site, there would be an up charge for the night and if I didn’t want to pay it I could go elsewhere. When I protested and said I would file a complaint, the response was “I don’t care, I’m just an employee.” Stayed the night but didn’t even use the picnic table because it was loaded with debris and looked dilapidated.

“Communal campground, great for climbers ”

This is now on my top campground list. The communal atmosphere lends itself to folks looking for a quiet place to hike or climb the cliffs of nearby New River Gorge. It's right next door to the park. The central bathrooms and wash area was stocked with eco-friendly products and easy access to water. You can't have a fire at your site but, instead, they have two or more large communal fire pits that make for a great atmosphere at night to get to know your fellow campers and get tips for the next day's trip. I went with my kids and we were one of maybe only a couple sites with kids which kept the camp area super quiet and serene. The tent sites have a wooden elevated bed, but an inner loop has vehicle sites specific for vans and Class Bs. A covered community area and refurbished school bus turned morning coffee station were there, but nothing going on with either while we were there.
Monafro would stay here again
