We really liked Nehalem Bay as we had visited this location before many years ago. This time it was only a one night stop for us since we were on our way back home. One thing about this campground is that its huge! There are several loops and all of them have access to the beach. The campsites are way off the road so you won't hear any noise from passing vehicles.
It is open year round and is reservable on reserveamerica.com. There are 265 campsites with electric and water. They do have an RV dump station there. They also have hot showers and flush toilets. The camping spots are fairly level and have trees dividing most the sites. You cannot see the Ocean from the sites but there are beach trails that take about 4-5 minutes to get there.
There is plenty to do at this place! There is an amphitheater, biking, hiking, beach combing, kite flying, clamming and crabbing. They have a horseback riding area too that's available from May-Sept. (www.oregonbeachrides.com). We only had enough time to take a walk around the campground and a walk on the beach on the evening we arrived. The beach is so nice and on this day, very windy. It's so diverse with the sand dunes, tall grassy knolls and driftwood on the sand. It can get windy here but we didn't mind. Wish we had more time to spend here and we plan to come back in the future.

We stayed in the off season and had the park pretty much to ourselves, but in season I am sure it feels crowded.
There are no options for campers who don’t want to use a hookup. Said another way, you can't get a cheaper site by selecting no hook up. All sites have the same fee.

Fabulous beach, clean sites, clean bathrooms for a state park. Sites could be close together if the place is crowded.
Good AT&T/Cricket LTE signal.
The dump stations are a problem, however. Major repair work is needed to the dump pads. Huge potholes filled with dump water have formed under the broken concrete/asphalt. This is both a serious health hazard and a hazard to trailers that don't have a ton of ground clearance. Be very careful, particularly when pulling forward out of the left hand dump lane. This appears to be a recurring problem with the Oregon State Park network.

The sites along this stretch of the A loop seemed to have a little more room around them than sites in the rest of the campground. We backed up to woods for a little privacy. The loops can be tight to drive around as you're getting to your site, especially when it's crowded with lots of people and vehicles in or near the road. We arrived on a weekday and didn't have any trouble. There are wonderful paved bike trails at this park, as well as plenty of beach access. Verizon and AT&T both worked well there. We ate dinner one night at the Pizza Garden nearby which was wonderful, they use all fresh ingredients.

Nehalem is one of our favorite state parks we've ever stayed in and location is the reason why!
Location: You are just steps from the dunes of the beautiful Oregon Coast and Pacific Ocean and if you get the right located site like we did on the outer ring you have good space, light, and even some nicely-positioned trees to string your hammock from. Nothing beats being able to walk a few minutes to catch the sunset on the beach! We met folks who had their go-to site that they came back to every year and when you tour the campground you can see why, so pick your site thoughtfully.
Dog-Friendliness: this is an important factor for us and the park got Denali's wag of approval! There's plenty of room to walk your dog within the park and many campers brought their pups. But the best part of Nehalem was being able to take Denali to the beach with us- he loved the wind in his ears, the soft sand, and even tried to drink a bit of the ocean :)
Runner's Rave: there were a number of great RV running options- paths you could take from the front step of your RV. For a beautiful beach run, Manzanita is just over a 2.5 miles away (5 mi rt) and there's also a 3-4 mile run (6-8 mi rt) you can map to Nehalem mostly through beach house neighborhoods- just be prepared that the last part of the run will be on busy 101.
Downsides: The biggest negatives of the park are the crowdedness and noise especially on the weekends and for the interior sites. Almost all the sites are back-in's and smaller -while we didn't have a problem fitting our 22' travel trailer, the sites seemed tight for larger rigs. Logistically, be prepared that you'll have to use the dump stations and since the hoses are short, you might need to bring some gear to assist in the process. And, not surprisingly, there's very limited cell coverage- but hopefully that's a very small inconvenience for such an awesome setting!
Overall: We loved Nehalem- a terrific location and experience for the money and hope to return soon!

We stayed at Nehalem Bay State Park at the end of June 2017 and had a great time.
The sites are all paved and ours was level. There are trees everywhere which made the scenery beautiful; however, in our 36' Class A, it also made it a bit difficult to back in (all sites are back-in).
Each site has water, a fire pit, a picnic table, and up to 50A electric; however there are only two sewer dumps located by the entrance. If you need to dump, do so before settling in.
There are also tent-camping sites and yurts/cabins that you could rent.
We had decent service between our Verizon hotspot, AT&T phone, and T-mobile phone -- consistent 2 bars, sometimes 3 bars around the campground -- good enough to stream video content.
Our Experience:
The campground was amazing. It was nestled in a grove of old-growth trees and banked on the west by sand dunes. The beach was LITERALLY right there and we took advantage of the beautiful Oregon sunsets almost every night. It was a little windy, typical of the Oregon coast, so it made it a little chilly at times so dress accordingly.
There is a bike/running path that winds around the campground which was really great to have. The forest weren't as thick as, say, Redwood National Park, but still scenic nonetheless.
The town is cute and has a little grocery

RVs that are 11’ tall or shorter should be ok, those that are 12’ may have some issues, RVs that are similar to our height (13’4”) should not even consider this state park (unless of course you don’t mind driving through pine tree branches as you drive to your site). Unfortunately the lack of tree trimming would have also made it impossible for us to back into our reserved site without hitting numerous branches (the branches extend into the road, not allowing for the needed maneuvering room to back into a site). Very disappointing; we were looking forward to our stay at this state park.

This large state park is right behind the dunes of miles of Oregon coast line. Sites are a little tightly spaced, but it's a popular park, and worth it for the access to the beach and the little towns on Manzanita and Nehalem. There's also a bike trail right into town.

The rate is for water and electric only. There are 265 campsites in six loops divided into two groups of three loops each. One of the loops was available as first-come first-serve. Sites range from 31' to 54' long. If you arrive without a reservation, pick up a map to check out the length of each site. The park also has a nice looking horse camp area with primitive sites with corrals and an airstrip with primitive sites.
The campground is located on a spit with the ocean on one side and the bay on the other. All campsites are paved with picnic tables and fire rings. There are restrooms and showers and a dump station.
The adorable town of Manzanita is just a few minutes away. It has several restaurants and shops though we didn't spend any time there.
Some campsites (including ours) have trails across the dunes to the ocean side, with a lovely wide beach at the end. There is also a bicycle trail that runs along the bay. Dogs are allowed leash free on the beach.
We were there in November and it was fairly empty, but I can see that it could feel kind of cramped when crowded. The road to access each loop takes you across two other loops as you enter and exit and is fairly narrow. For those two reasons, I gave it a four instead of a five.
