Question about Mueller State Park

jpgmarks asked on 6/1/2021

The website says proper storage required for food etc. but I'm not seeing any mention of bear boxes? We will be in a campervan - would we need to purchase a bear canister?

There are individual bear boxes at the walk-in tent sites. There is no need for a bear box if the camper has a hard-sided vehicle in which they can store their food. Also, for those campers camping at an RV site with only a soft-sided vehicle, Mueller does have a few mobile bear boxes which may be requested upon arrival.

I cannot speak for ALL of the sites, but where at the area of the Park where we were camped, there were Bear Boxes.

You do not need your own bear proof canister. The trash bins at Mueller are all bear proof. You need to practice smart camping in bear country. Don't leave food outside at night, etc.

The Park has bear boxes at all of the tent campsites; none at RV sites. We camp there in camper van and have had no problem keeping the food inside of the van.
