Mueller State Park

We traveled to Mueller State Park following 2 nights at Cherry Creek in Denver. This was a welcome respite from all of the traffic and chaos of the city! Such a beautiful park with great trails. We planned this trip a little late, so site 11 was the only one available to us (that we would fit in). It was a pull through site, but situated between the in/out sides of the main road in the Revenuer's Ridge area of the park. There are other areas that branch off of the main road and wouldn't have as much traffic that would be better, and a lot of pull through sites. The campsites here are electric only, but water spigots are plentiful in the campground. We stopped to fill up our water tanks at the dump station (that also has potable water) on our way in, and had plenty. But if you stay longer, and have to fill up your tanks, please don't pull your ginormous rig into the dump side of the dump station and start filling up your 100 gallon tank at the same time of day that others are trying to leave and dump. We sat and waited for at least 30 minutes just to dump our tanks.

Cell service is weak to non-existent, but we had our Starlink, and it performed well in spite of the trees.

We were working while here, so we only had time to do one hike, but it was beautiful. Lots of great trails, and wildlife. We saw lots of wild turkeys!

We will go back, and plan on staying longer!

This is a gorgeous, well-maintained state park that often gets overlooked. The campsites are a good size with a gravel tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring. There are many pull through spaces if you have an RV. The sites on the main road get a decent amount of traffic, so I recommend getting a site on one of the loops if available. Go for the south side if you want views (Site 34!) and the north side if you want more tree coverage/privacy. Really though, you can’t go wrong at any of the sites.

The hiking trails are great in the park, and the visitor’s center is worth a stop. They also have daily activities like archery lessons or owl pellet dissections!

This park is immaculate with smooth paved sites- most with jaw dropping views! Comfort station has flush toilets and was extremely clean! There is an area inside for washing dishes and a water refill station. RV sites all have electric and water- no sewer but park does have dump station. Unfortunately the camper services building (where showers and laundry are located) was still closed for season but I understand they should open in May. Snow was rapidly disappearing in April. At this time of year, most hiking trails were clear enough of snow. Had most trails completely to ourselves but expect they are much busier during peak season. So much beauty and history here! Check out the historic cabins on many trails. Elevation just shy of 10000 ft but no problem getting camper in. Drink lots of. Water if you are used to much lower elevations. We had no trouble except on steepest trails. Beautiful sunsets!
No dogs allowed on trails and I consider that a great thing- there are bears in the area though we did not see any. Also, lots of scat from other animals presumably elk or moose.
We were in site 88 and needed no leveling for our small travel trailer.
Verizon cell service bill at site but much better near comfort station- you are in the mountains here so no Wi-Fi.
Been to many, many campgrounds and this is the absolute BEST so far!! Plan ahead because sites really book up during peak season.Sadly, you must pay a daily park fee in addition to to site reservation fee which makes the price a little steep. If you are a Colorado resident it makes sense to get annual pass. Kind of feel bad about the glowing recommendation because I know this will make getting a site even harder but the honest truth is that you don’t want to miss this park!

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in the site #92 in the Grouse Mountain Loop, an electric, PT site for $37/night. Roads and sites were asphalt. The road into the park looked like it had been recently redone so it was nice and smooth. Some of the curves were a bit tight causing my wheels to be on or slightly over the double yellow line at times. #92 was a little hard to get into and get positioned correctly so the slides would not hit trees or the picnic table which was very close to the drive. Needed a board under one side to get level. There was scattered shade. Had 1-2 bars LTE making calls spotty. Over by the visitor’s center the signal was stronger. There are vault toilets around, but I didn’t use them. There are also water spigots scattered about, but it would be better to fill up at the dump station if you need it. I actually think the back-in sites would be better than the crescent shaped pull throughs because the PT’s are so close to the road it felt like my kitchen table was in the road. Lots of families camp there and kids were riding and playing in the road so drive slow. There are only two dump station slots so the lines were long at the end of a weekend. Also, there was no way to flush your tanks. There is a view of Pike’s Peak through the trees. Once the kids settle down it is a quiet campground. There are lots of hiking trails in the park and it is close to Pike's Peak, Florrisant Fossil Beds National Monument and Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods) - easy to do day trips to each. I would definitely stay here again.

IMHO, this is one of the best SP in CO. We stayed at Revenuers Ridge and although other sites were not far from us, we felt private because we faced out onto the valley. The park was full but we only saw five people on the trail during a three hour hike. The trails were somewhat gravelly due to the type of granite (I think) in the area. There were many to choose from. Restrooms and trash cans were nearby. It was electric only so we put on some water before going. Enjoy, we'd like to go back.

Stayed here Memorial Day week and we got snow!!! It just stuck around overnight but was pretty exciting to have snow in the summer for these Louisiana natives. The facilities were all spotless, the rangers were all very tolerant of our questions and friendly. The hikes were great and the views of pikes peak are jaw dropping no matter how many times you see it. Seems like the park is mostly full of Colorado campers and I can see why it is so popular with the locals. The worst part was trying to acclimate to the elevation and not miss out on hiking. Probably another reason it’s so popular with locals and not as many campers from the lower elevation states. 9,500 ft elevation is no joke! Definitely would stay longer if we could come again.

We were able to snag a 5-night reservation here in August of '21. The park is clean and beautiful, the sites are very nicely laid out with a degree of privacy and space between most of them. Our site had a view of Pike's Peak (somewhere on Revenuer's Ridge, don't remember exact site number). There is potable water available to fill your freshwater tank within the camping loop -- the sites in our loop only had electrical hook-ups. Site was very nicely leveled and situated. There were several activities available for the public while we were there, including a quick watercolor lesson with a ranger, and music and guest speakers a couple evenings at the park's amphitheatre. Internet was very good. The park isn't too far from Colorado Springs, so we drove there to take the cog train up Pike's Peak (make a reservation ahead of time). Take advantage of this wonderful park if you get the chance. Hiking, great views, and wildlife abound. Colorado does charge a nightly fee that you pay when entering the state parks in addition to the actual camping fees -- be sure to keep that in mind as part of the cost. We were staying long enough and intending to go to other state parks as well, so we went ahead and paid for a year's worth of the extra fee -- just be prepared.

Very well done state park. The sites are not on top of one another and it is QUIET. We enjoyed the perfectly manicured site and TREES!

I needed a getaway with trees and an open fire. My husband needed something that wasn't too hard to access and some elbow room. We both were happy with this beautiful weekend. We didn't visit any of the amenities but loved the proximity to Divide for quick supplies. Will definitely return for a beautiful low-impact camping experience. I took some campsite pics to help you get a sense of the trees and general setup for some of the sites.

Had no issues with Verizon service at our site.

Colorado beauty... great location for Cripple Creek, Florissant Fossil Beds, and Pikes Peak. Colorado Springs an easy 28 mile commute. My 41' coach barely fit in #6 at Revenuer's Ridge loop but we made it with all 3 slides out. Site had spacious adjacent area with nice metal picnic table. Water and dumps are very convenient. Electrical 30 amp only but more than sufficient.
