We had planned to stay at Salmon River Campground but it was closed for the season. We backtracked to Mormon Bend and we were so glad we did. Every site is paved with a picnic table, fire pit and tent pad. We scored site #7 which is the only one that has a water front view. We had no problem maneuvering around the campground in our 32’ft 5th wheel. Most of the pads look like they could accommodate up to a 40+ rig. We went hiking, fishing and visited the Sunbeam Hot Springs over a 3 day period.

As others have said, there is no cell service. Not a deal breaker as we were here for just one night on our way through the area. If we could, we would come back and stay longer. We had a pull through spot, plenty long enough for our truck and 43' 5th wheel to stay connected. We were able to level it with one 'lego block' under one side of tires. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring and tent platform. Cost is $20/night, or $10/night with accepted senior discount. There are two bathroom buildings (I didn't look inside), a potable water spigot, and a boat access ramp. The camp host sells firewood, $10/bundle.

We were driving along Hwy 75 and drove into scout out this campground and it has earned itself #1 on our list of places to stay next time we're in the area.
Although it's near the highway, the river is on the other side of the campground so the river may drown out some of the highway noise.
The whole place is paved along with toilets, trash and water. It is immaculately clean. The camp host who is responsible for many campgrounds along this stretch stays in this campground.
The reason it gets #1 is not just because of the river access but also, it's one of the campgrounds outside of Stanley that Starlink would likely work extremely well...being that there is no cell service on any provider. It's also a short drive to the hot springs along this stretch of highway while still not being too far from Stanley for a run for a treat at the bakery.
Mid week in mid June, there were 3 rigs there.

The campground is completely paved, has two clean vault toilets, a boat launch and several camp sites right on the low bank river. I had site 7 and it was great - long parking pad, a nice tent spot and a nice little beach. The road noise is mostly muted by the rush of the river. I will return to this campground.

This small north side campground on the 75 between Challis and Stanley is just one of many great Forest Service campgrounds near beautiful Stanley, ID. While these campsites have no cell service and some are a bit overgrown, they are clean, convenient and priced reasonably for senior campers such as we. We were blessed with wonderful camp hosts ( who were also the area managers) and thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay right on the Salmon River. Because it's location on the 75 there was a bit of road noise but not too bad.
