The horses have the right a way. it’s located in a planted forest from long ago so there’s tall trees. 30 minutes west get you to a casino in Manistee and Mesick Michigan is close and that’s the morel mushroom capital of the world. It used to be completely free. But now they take reservations from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I don’t know the cost to reserve. Spring and fall is still free. First come first serve.

I was here last year and noticed trash was left in some sites. This year, they’ve made some improvements including widening some sites and making them all reservation only. The forest is peaceful and quiet yet close to Manistee. Meijer and Bigbee right up the road.

Sites are pretty spaced out. Very quiet on my end. My dog and I loved it! Easy to get to in my car

This was a wonderful campground. Very quiet the entire time we were here. There are a total of 21 sites, various sizes. Most are fairly level. All are tucked among the trees. We were able to collect some solar at our site but we had to move the panels around throughout the day. There is a vault toilet (did not use it). At one point there was water here. But during our stay the handle was gone and a lock was on it.
There are several miles of horse trails here that are also great for hiking.
We loved the close proximity to Lake Michigan yet far enough away for the peace and quiet. The quaint town of Manistee is only 15 minutes away. With restaurants, shops, beach access, river walk, a Meijer to stock up on supplies, and more.
We will stay here again as this is a great spot.

Good service for Visible/Verizon. No service for T-Mobile. Large camping sites (pullthrough, etc.) with tables and firepits. Check out our video review at: https://youtu.be/VrhpbzrNT1Q

Nice spacious sites. You can’t go wrong. We have 25foot trailer and zero problems finding a site. Manistee(15min drive) is a beautiful little Victorian town with beaches on each side of the Manistee river on Lake Michigan.

Great free spot only about 15 minutes east of Manistee. Dirt road in, but it was in good condition. 21 sites, all first come first serve. On a Tuesday evening in July there was just one other site taken. You can camp here regardless of whether or not you have horses, though many of the sites do have extra horse amenities like hitching posts. One pit toilet and water available. Didn’t use either on my stay though as I used the free facilities at the local town beach. Quiet and beautiful spot, with the added benefit of it being free! Was able to make calls/texts and do light surfing of the web.
