Question about Magnolia Beach Dispersed Camping

Lisa's RV Experience

Lisa's RV Experience asked on 1/12/2022

I am extremely afraid of getting stuck in the sand with my 30' Class A but I'd love to try to camp here for a night. Is there much risk of soft sand? Can I park further back from the ocean and get blacktop or a more solid parking spot?

We parked there for the night last January a year ago. We have a 34ft class A and was pulling a toad with our car on it. We drove at an angle to the water without unhooking so we could just drive away.. No problem at all.

It’s a hard packed shell beach, so no worries!! Don’t even have to worry about the tides.

No worries. I parked as close to the ocean as possible, not even a hint of slipping or sinking.

The sand is well packed and most has grass growing through it. The only soft sand is right near waters edge, not a good place to park. We had no issues parking ourr 33 foot class A rig.

There is only beach parking but it’s hard packed shells. There’s no way you’ll get stuck!

Hi Lisa - The sand on Magnolia Beach is usually well packed down and we have not seen or heard of anyone getting stuck there. We see big Class A and fifth wheels parked close to the water. When you get there, you will see others parked in a row usually, so if there are others you should be good. Get out and check the site before pulling in, but you should be just fine. You also do not have to worry about a high tide there either. Enjoy! Brian

We camped at Magnolia Beach with our CrewCab Chevy pick-up and a 23’ Airstream with no problem. There were several motor homes there as well. The beach is hard-packed sand due to the frequent rise and fall of the tide. There is no paved area. I would not pass up the opportunity to camp on this beach! It’s lovely listening to the sound of the waves coming on to the shore! Such peaceful sleep! Enjoy!

Once you arrive at Magnolia, you can park among the many fifth wheels. I've never seen anyone get stuck. It's hard-packed like asphalt. The blacktop is for passenger vehicles who visit, mostly. You can also go down to the road about two miles to Indianola and park on the grass. It's quite beautiful as well. I'm sure you will be fine, though.

You will have no problem with a Class A. The beach is hard packed shell, not sand.
