This is a great spot if you have a 4 wheel off-road vehicle and you are not a senior. Very easy to get stuck and the wind can stir up a dust storm. It is a very popular place so don’t expect to be alone

Yes we will definitely be back. Our first trip to Lake Powell, and staying at Lone Rock was just what we wanted. The lake level is pretty low right now, so the distance from "beach" parking to the water was something like 150 yards, but it made the beach feel more like camping on a bluff with a great view of Lone Rock and the rocky outcrops and mesa's to the north. There is also camping up top nearer the entry station (camp host is here). Wind can be, and was a nuisance. For the time we were there, (mid-April) we had one afternoon of calm and 2 days of blowing sand in the afternoons (20 - 45 mph gusts). I'm told the wind is sort of seasonal, so other times of the year it is probably better. The sustained wind was strong enough that on our second day, we watched the patrol boat come out to rescue a couple of people on paddle boards who made it from shore to Lone Rock ok, but apparently couldn't paddle back against the wind.

I stayed here for a week, it was very busy but there is a lot of space so there shouldn’t be a worry to find a space. I noticed almost everybody with a tent had them blown away. So watch out for wind! Good cell service, not much privacy since it’s a beach but it’s truly an experience worth having there. I felt safe. 🤍

The most popular areas were closer to the water but we enjoyed staying back a bit out of the busiest of the activity. Views were fantastic. Depending on your equipment you will need to be careful to not get stuck in the sand. We saw several vehicles that struggled. I would recommend carefully exploring before getting too far into the sand,

We love this spot. Right on Lake Powell. Bring your paddle boards!
The negatives....
ATV traffic, sometimes late at night with no quiet hour enforcement.
Sand, you have to be careful where you drive or you may get stuck.

First off, if you have an annual pass there is a sign that says camping is free. This was a most welcome surprise.
Next, the nearby dump station is great to have and there are water spigots however they were turned off while I was there. One was washed down water for the dump area and a separate area said potable water. If these are turned on at some point that would be a very sweet amenity to have.
It wasn't too busy while I was here on a Thursday through Saturday but maybe that was because it was cloudy and rainy until I left. But overall it was fun to see the families playing on dirt bikes, ATVs, and side by sides. They were having fun, as were the people dragging kayaks down to the shoreline for a paddle like I was.
There are lots of restrooms spread out along the beach which is great for tent campers or anyone without a portable toilet. The main restroom area was closed but that wasn't a big deal for me having a camper. just not sure why they didn't have it open yet by the end of March.
I wanted to mention that I very much appreciated the heavy gravel driveways down into the beach area. they were easy to follow because they are a dark heavy rock. You can drive to the end, park for a bit and walk around, and pick a safe route to where you want to set up camp. I didn't see anyone have to get rescued while I was there. I even saw some small SUVs driving down by the water so maybe there were other roads I didn't know about to get you even further down, or they are just very brave, or lucky, or whatever.
One item to mention is that cell service was not as great as I had hoped. I have a high quality cell booster in my truck and another one on my camper and wasn't able to do much more than text words and make voice calls. If I tried to send pictures or do any work on my laptop through a hotspot I was dead in the water. Websites seemed to work okay as did apps on my phone although some of them kept crashing and I wondered if it was because of the spotty signal. So I drove to the marina and parked east-facing at the Castle Rock outlet store and got four bars of Verizon and spent a few hours doing work (with a nice view and a detached restroom) before I went back to play at the beach.

We camped here Feb 4-7 2021 and there were about 4-5 other campers on over a mile of beach. Our nearest neighbor was about 100 yards away. During the day on the weekend more people showed up for day use but there weren't ever more than 30 people on a HUGE stretch of beach.
The beach can accommodate any size rig easily. The most important thing to remember when getting there.... SCOUT AHEAD! Either on foot or with a 4x4 so you can plan your route out to the beach. One wrong turn and you will be up to your frame in soft sand. But there are plenty of hard pack routes to get out there as long as you scout ahead. I saw a 45ft class A, I have a 35ft toy hauler, people were driving 2 wheel drive cars out there for the day. I did pull a Mini Cooper out that was stuck up to the frame and I almost got stuck with my 4x4 Ram truck. So planning is key.
This is going to be one of my go to winter camping spots. I don't like camping with lots of people so Feb was perfect. Temps were high 50s during the day and lows were high 20s. Never more than a breeze and not a single bug to be found. Summer is a whole different story, I'm sure. Lake Powell is notorious for wind/sand storms in the afternoons but we didn't have any of that.
The potable water fill, flush toilets, and showers were closed for the season but the vault toilets on the beach were open. The Pilot gas station that is a 3 minute drive has a dump station and potable water that worked out perfectly.
I can't recommend this spot enough! YouTube video link: https://youtu.be/6hqRPstunaM

$14/night, open sand beach, park wherever you can, but be careful, you could be stuck in sand, one woman drove a van stuck in and have to call tow truck. Pretty windy the night we stayed. Good view and right by the lone rock, and state boundary. Bathroom not open now, only can use toilet.
