After staying in some fantastic state parks, my initial impression of Loft Mt Campground was quite negative. I reminded myself that this is a NP campground and that I should adjust my expectations. OK so I tried. Eventually, I figured out that the decrepit picnic table was overdriving my impression. It was in really bad shape and should be replaced. Once I decided to ignore the picnic table, I gave this campground four stars (on the National Park scale).
The Verizon coverage was variable, jumping to 2 LTEs at times and then fading to nothing. AT&T was consistently "no service".

Lots of bath houses scattered through out the campground. The Appalachian Trail circles the campground, making for a great hike and lovely overlook views (and during our early August stay - the only wild blackberries left, as the ones in the campground were picked over already).
The onsite laundry at the store was immaculate, super clean and very cheap. Coin showers available too. Not really close to the campground, so we did our load on the way out.
Overall, wished we had planned to stay here longer, as we were able to get very usable video streamable speeds on T-Mobile - and it's just peaceful and lovely and relatively quiet.

At $15 a night Its touch to beat. We were there the last week it’s open for the season, and I felt like most sites were fairly private especially the pull throughs around the perimeter. Not though pay attention to the site you book. F and G sites do not allow generators.- fine if you have solar but with no hook ups we needed to recharge with our generator. The booking site won’t tell you this so pay attention. They’ll let you change sites when you arrive if there are any 1st come 1st serve still open. Great base for hiking and exploring the national park and surrounding areas.

Our family camps here often as it is an hour from home. Great site with plenty of room. Pull through, back in and tent only all available. Clean restrooms, pay showers available. No hook ups but there is a dump station. People are friendly and most sites have shade and reasonable privacy.

We stayed at Loft Mountain in late October. It was a sunny, beautiful Fall day. We had reserved a site as we worried that it might be full due to Fall colors, but there were a lot of open sites. Our reserved site was not level. Many sites are on a slope. The Ranger was very gracious in letting us switch sites. We drove around and found a great site, on the outside loop. The best sites, in my opinion, are A56-A64 on the outside loop. The pull through sites are nice as we are a 27" class C towing.
The ranger showed us the location of rock outcrops about 5 min walk down the Appalachian Trail to watch sunset. It was amazing. I felt like we were in a movie or a painting. So beautiful.

We started here to drive the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. This campground was in a very nice location and as we were in bear country, a black bear was spotted in the campground while we were there. This campground was kept neat and clean and even with no hookups, we found our stay very pleasant. Our friends stayed on C93 which was right behind ours. The two sites were joined by a big 'back yard' which was perfect for us, and almost like being in a double site. We would certainly stay here again.

Nice older campground. Potable water, flushable toilets and sinks in bathrooms. Didn’t check out the laundry area.
Plenty of sites available on a Monday afternoon. Nice Gift shop nearby with tasteful souvenirs. We hiked to the falls and back. Trailhead is a short drive from the campground.

We stayed 4 nights at Loft Mountain over July 4th. I was concerned when booking looking at the campground map and not being able to see the grade and size/privacy of sites. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived that the campground has quite a bit of different grade along with trees and shrubbery making most sites private. The campground is rather remote in the park leaving us to hike and relax. Cell service was spotty - I ranged anywhere from having no service to 2 bars on 4G all from the same spot on our site. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. I did not realize until checkin that showers are not at each bathroom but rather only at the campstore. Campstore has nice selection of gear and groceries. There is also a restaurant and gift store at the Wayside across from the campground entrance. We saw lots of wildlife including deer that would walk through our site, a bear while driving Skyline Drive, rabbits, chipmunks, etc. Overall we had a great stay and will be back.

Shenandoah is amazing. Gorgeous views and this campground makes it easy to seem almost all of it in an easy day drive. AT loops around the campground and it has the best Amphitheatre I have ever seen. Well worth staying the night despite the enormity of 200+ campsites.
