We stayed here in early/mid-November of 2023. The Riverside CG is a beautiful campground with loads of long sites - some have tree roots moving the asphalt up and some are closer to the neighbooring sites than others. We had a waterfront site last time we were here, but they were all reserved over the weekend. And speaking of weekend... only 6 or 7 empty sites on Saturday night! Our site was lovely - big area in front with no one in site (except a bit of the camphost). Cell service pretty lousy - our booster worked better. The creek CG is a bit more open - has sites out in the middle without much separation or privacy. They do have FHU though... Riverside has power & water and is more treed. I would definitely stay here again, but feel it's a bit pricey - we averaged $45 & change. South Carolina State Parks seem to be higher than some of the neighboring parks.

Site 3 / Riverside- lots of space on water.
In the woods….. Variety of spaces for big rigs and little … some private, some not so. Lots of campers with boats.
*We were there on a Thursday and told that it’s a popular local’s destination on weekends.
Pet friendly.

This park was very clean and well maintained. In late October 2021, weather was awesome, park was empty. Campground host was very attentive and kept sites clean on departures. Dump station was clean and handy
Large rig friendly. One of my favorite SC State parks (limited experience).

That's the reason I didn't give 5 stars. Including a video on the campground.

Impressed with layout and paved roads. Trees were trimmed. No worries with a 35 fifth wheel. Upon entering, the signs tell you to proceed to the Office/Tackle Bait Shop to register. (no one was at the entry station and the entry station pass through was VERY NARROW. We have a 101" wide fifth wheel and it was tight) So, the Office is past both roads that enter the two camping loops, which is weird and is a dead end. There is a huge parking lot for picnic/day use adjacent to the office so you can go around through that if you have a big rig to exit and return to the campground loops. As others have said, Riverside has trees and shade, no sewer hookups. Taylor has no shade and privacy but DOES have sewer sites. Riverside sites were impressively long - and would be great in the summer. Now, in December on a week night, neither area was crowded and the sun would be nice on a cold day :-D
Price mid week was $26 for non-resident - $35 for weekend. Two night stay at a minimum is always required, if you try to reserve for one night nothing will be available. Very friendly staff in the office - office has necessities - and Blue Bell Ice Cream! Yum. Would we come back here - maybe - it is really out in the boonies with no services and pitch dark. Perfect for peace and quiet, AND FISHING! We camped at Lake Wateree State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Riverside Campground was excellent. We've camped here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The staff is great and the campground and facilities are always very clean and well maintained. We camped during the week (Mon-Fri) and the campground less than half full....was very quiet. Early morning sunrises across the lake were spectacular. My only criticism is that I wish Verizon cell coverage would have been better. We generally had 1-2 bars of coverage (mostly one). Call and text coverage was adequate, but during peak usage periods, emails and other internet use was very spotty. Even so, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the older of the two campgrounds, Riverside. The newer one, Taylor’s Creek, does have sewer, but no shade and hence no privacy. Riverside is very pretty with all the tall trees. It does have a lot of sites though and it did feel crowded. If we had reserved a lake front spot there was a three night minimum, so we reserved the next closest space that was not considered lake front (31). We did have a view of the lake, if we walked to the back of the wooded site. There is a 20 foot cliff down to the water, so there’s no easy access to fish. Also, a negative to that site was the viewing area for the lake with a couple of benches was basically on our site. A number of people walked through our site to get to them and the sat for a while. While they were nice folks, it was somewhat annoying that we had to “share”’our space with the rest of the campground. The park is very remote. So definitely come prepared. It’s a 50 minute drive to Camden, the closest large town. Cell service (Verizon) was almost none. We could text and voice call, but not use data for anything.

We stayed 2 nights in the Riverside Campground in December. The park is entirely paved and really easy to drive around even with a big rig. The spots are perfectly positioned for backing in (there are also several pull thru spots) and mostly level. We had a waterfront spot and it was beautiful. We were able to walk along a the beach and enjoy the wildlife. They have a cute store with lots of souvenirs (and bait!), a dock and boat fueling station, and a 2.35 mile trail. We always stop in South Carolina on our way up north and I booked our next two trips here because we loved it so much. They have a new campground (Taylor Creek) with full hookups but closer together like a private park. I recommend both the campgrounds.
