The lake is to the right side of the camp road with a sand dune between the lake. Most sites the dune blocked the view of the lake but some sites were on the dune with excellent views. The ones that were blocked had sandy trails to a very nice sandy beach.
$24 a night but only $12 for us old farts with senior pass.

Cost: $24. Level spots. Vault toilets. Near route 2 so some road noise. Camp hosts available. Many reservations so wise to book in advance of possible. We snagged the last site on Aug. 6, 2024 (no reservations)

Would definitely recommend staying here and next time we come, we will boondock for longer!!
Just a quick note if you have a 36+ foot RV it might be a little tricky finding a place to park. But it's worth stopping by to see if any of the bigger spots are open. :)

This campground is right on Lake Michigan. The beach was beautiful. Soft sand and very clean. It is also, unfortunately, right on route 2. The map on reservation.gov seems to indicate that all campsites are on the lake side but this is false. The majority are on the highway side. At night, we couldn’t hold a conversation over the noise. Around 4:30 in the morning, the tractor trailers start flying by and all sleep is lost. The water from the pump smelled like lake water. Cell service was better on the beach. On the positive side, the sunset was amazing.

A great test for our solar system as most of the sites are wooded-but the sun peaked thru enough. A lot of road noise during the day but just go to the beach where you only hear the waves. :) Also a good place to take day trips to The Soo Locks, Drummond Island or Whitefish Point.
Beware this is very hilly and you will have to go up and down sandy hills to get to the beach. Also for many of the sites you have steps to the picnic table and fire ring area of your campsite.

There is some highway noise during the day. Most of the spots are shaded so use of solar is limited. Most sites have fire rings and nice picnic tables. There are several toilets throughout the campground. Each site is unique based on the terrain. Our 36’ Class C fit in our spot but larger RVs would have trouble finding a spot. We had 1 bar of Verizon 4G and was able to stream a movie with our JetPack. We still had some nuisance mosquitoes during late August.

Some of the sites are only suitable for tents or camper vans. There is also road noise since the highway runs alongside the campground. Fortunately the road noise was far less after dark when there were fewer semi's on the road. From our parking spot we went up a few stairs to an opening with a fire ring and picnic table. From here there was a path to the beach.

The campground is located right along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, and certain sites (site 15 particularly) have direct access to the lake. For those visiting in early June be aware that midge bugs will destroy your vehicle and the mosquitoes are horrendous. The campground seems to appeal to those seeking a lazy day at he lakeshore or adventurous kayakers. Otherwise not much going on - but be sure to visit St. Ignace or Mackinac Island if you get the chance.
