We pulled in at dusk to find a quiet, clean campground with many open sites. The sites are large and many have lake views. Very clean…I will return! It’s approximately 2 paved miles off highway 2 and easy to find.

We enjoyed our stay at this park. Our site was a pull through but did not have a lake view. It was close to the boat ramp though. There was a water spigot across the road and many throughout the campground. A regular water fill was at the dump station. The only negative was the access in and out of the dump station. It was one way and when everyone is waiting to dump, they have to line up on the road for their turn which blocks traffic.
We camped in the island loop but the other loop had some really private sites with huge trees and hillside. There was also a snack shop that opened in the evenings.
We walked to the picnic area and it looked like the beach access there was nicer than in the campground.
This campground is really close to go over to Mackinac Island for the day.

We stopped here overnight passing through the area. Got in super late and still found a spot by luck! Staff was super friendly, sites were well maintained, location was safe and the lake was gorgeous!

There are modern toilets, and even though the facilities are very dated they are possibly the cleanest I've ever come across at a campground. There are kayak, SUP and Canoe rentals on site, as well as ice and wood for sale. There is potable water and a dump station. (The water is far enough from the dump to feel safe enough to fill our tanks.). Very quiet after 10pm, the quiet hours seemed very enforced, there was not a single generator going overnight.

There were many available campsites and a couple of ladies who worked at the campsite were super nice and helpful about getting us an envelope and guiding us on getting a campsite. We ended up at site 21, which had a cute wooden pathway to a private sandy beach spot! It couldn’t have been any nicer. Bugs weren’t even that bad being close to the water, and they had a ton of convenient bathrooms. They even had ice to buy at the front, as well as a vendor. Would 1000% stay here again

Don’t let the following dissuade you, this is a more than pleasant couple of loops situated—as most national forest campgrounds in the UP are—along a beautiful lake.
What first put me off on the place, aside from my continuing disdain for the high percentage of reservable sites in NF campgrounds out East, was the signage. The rules here are more akin to an RV Park than national forest. One RV/van and a tent, or two tents max, so no stuffing sites, which is acceptable (though the limit on number of people is 8, so two tents seems a bit low). But then “due to COVID” the rule is you must all be one family per site. So somehow you could come here and reserve two sites, a family in each, and hang around a fire together the entire time, and that would prevent disease but...anyway, confusing. Then there’s the “check in time is 2pm” rule, if you show up before 2 you have to pay for the night before. So if you’re first come first served, you basically have to loop the place or wait in a parking lot. I have never seen that rule anywhere in a National Forest before. The sign says it’s because they need time to clean the site up, but how does that equate to paying for the night before? Not to mention the 1,076 pistachio shells in our site which looked to be significantly at home in the place.
We drove around several times looking for a site that had bit sun for solar and cell reception for me to work. This was tricky, especially with the reserved sites, but found #14 to be adequate for both. At first cell service seemed non-existent but I ended up having enough to work all day (Verizon) and stream a movie at night.
The park is covered in trees, but the undergrowth is manicured. There’s a mini golf course which appears to be free. The host sells wood and ice. And you can rent kayaks and canoes for $20-$35 (see pics uploaded here.) all of this is quite nice, but with the proximity to your neighbors, well, this all just contributes to a more “RV Park” vibe. A very, very nice RV Park. I know that’s a positive to some folks, and a negative to others, so just throwing that out there. The loop away from the lake does seem a bit more quiet and private. A black bear and her cubs were spotted over there during our stay. It also rained 100% of the time, nonstop relentless rain that no doubt put a damper on our particular experience.
For me, this is a 2 or 3 star campground, but I felt like I was being too judgy so went with 4.
The chipmunks are not afraid of you, I caught one sitting on my foot.
Oh and just because I hate silly signs that have no business being in my national forest, that’s a reflection of S’mores Camp Management Corporation...the actual staff here were pleasant and cleaned the bathrooms really well every single day.
Most people would probably absolutely love this place. I’m just an old codger.

Site 67 has 50 amp and water. I lucked out, but the parlor is very nice with a lake on both sides and a beach. 1 mile to Lake Michigan and the beaches there. Trails to walk on. The management are great. I did not use the restroom, COVID. 18 miles to town.

The campground offers primitive sites on a small lake just off the northern end of Lake Michigan. Many of the sites are lakeside. Our site had an obscured view, but a short path through the trees led to the water, where our dog enjoyed a swim. We enjoyed a peaceful night here before traveling north through the Upper Peninsula to Lake Superior. Cell service without a booster (Verizon and Sprint) was very limited.

Later in the evening our neighbors were very loud but we were ok with it as long as they didn't wake the kids up. The host thought it was us being loud and she came stomping into our site and literally YELD at us to go to bed. It was 11:00 pm. She could have asked us nicely and we would have let her know what was really going on but I'm almost positive she was drunk. She was very rude and does not deserve to have the job that she does.

Never had the harassment from any park host the way we did from these two older folks! There Park was full!
And they kept coming around to our site and the lot next to us! We literally walked from the bathroom to our site to close up came when they repeatedly kept saying are you just going to go to bed and leave your fire? Just taunting us like they were 12 year old bullies! I kept explaining to them we are packing up for bed we are not in bed! They were harassing the next lot over as well they ask them to turn down the music so they turned the music off not down they threatened the cops! Wait they turned off the music. I’m confused why the cops?
We told them we were not being loud and the old man got in my boyfriends face, yelling at him saying I’m the host I can do what I want Um no sir you can’t fight and harass people who aren’t doing anything wrong! 10 is quite time not bedtime! This old man was about to hit my boyfriend threatening the cops! My response to these crazy harassing older folks was yes please call them I want you to call them because your being crazy people! You literally just passed us coming from the bathrooms now your at our site telling us all sorts of non sense! When I said that the woman says well I have five sites and I can’t tell whose loud? Seriously not my problem you can’t do your job properly! Just a horrible excuse for hosts! Again never would I recommend this park! The night of June 30th 2018 a horrible experience!
