GPS tells you to leave 70 a bit early, but within half a mile is the actual turn in for the lake. There’s a cattleguard and then some bumpy road, but it gets considerably better quickly.

The gate is narrow, but doable. We were fine with at 37 foot class A and tow vehicle. Plenty of room to disconnect and maneuver shortly after the entrance. Road was OK. Picked a spot near the water. Fairly easy to level. Several other campers there the night we stayed. Didn’t notice any smells from lake. Some jet noise. Great location for visiting White Sands National Park. Verizon signal was good for searching internet.

The proximity to white sands is epic and the sites are beautiful and relatively clean. Neighbors were all pleasant. The one caveat (and others have mentioned it) is getting through the gates on the way in. We’re in a 40ft fifth wheel pulled by a long bed truck and we had to back up and reposition to get through. We also almost bottomed out in the back because there’s a dip. Go slow and use a spotter if you’re long and you should be fine. It was easier for us leaving.
AT&T was good for us the night we were here.
I would stay here again visiting White Sands. We almost stayed longer but hadn’t filled/dumped in a while so we moved on.

The only down side, when we were there (late October), were afternoon flies.
There are 2 sets of fences/poles when you enter so if you have a long trailer like ours you need to watch your angles as you pull through the gate.
There are over a dozen good spots to park! Stay close to the lake as you drive back. 2 wheel drive should not be an issue unless it is really wet and muddy.

Stayed here for the night. It is a nice location being 4 minutes from white sand NP. It had beautiful sunset and ducks swimming in the pond. I didn’t notice a smell at first when it got later in the evening there was a faint odor. There are flies there but we had no issue because of bug nets. Would definitely stay here again

I have tried multiple bands at different times during the day and speeds vary drastically.
One minute ill have 20mb+ download and a few minutes later it will be 2mb. I have 2 AT&T plans and my cellphone and it was constant during the entire stay.
I was able to work from here, but had a few instances were zoom would freeze or glitch and come back.
There also was so many Flies in the area which drove me nuts.

Be aware getting in the gate can be a little tricky in a long rig. We have a 45ft 5th wheel being pulled by a dually and we made it. We were coming from Alamogordo and just had to swing very wide to get in and had a little tail drag. It may be easier from other direction, not positive though. Would advise getting there while still light out so you can see better.
It was very windy during our stay which seems to be common for the area. We just faced the rig so we weren’t broadside to the wind.
Will definitely stay here again. The AFB noise didn’t bother us and we didn’t smell any odors coming off the lake.

While camped near here, I decided to check it out and I find that the gate is now open and there are no signs restricting camping.
As others have said, there is a smell since this is a waste water evaporation pond.
