Stephanie asked on 11/14/2021

Brand new to boondocking and wondering if you have to be military to stay here? Any help would be appreciated.

According to the base security office (‭575-572-7171‬), this camping area is located off-base and is open to the public. The Las Cruces office of the Bureau of Land Management (‭575-525-4300‬) also appears to have some involvement with the camping area.

No… this area is on the base but does not require any affiliations. It’s patrolled so don’t be a criminal and clean up after yourself !

No, it is BLM land. However the area was closed when I was there in Jan 2020 due to issue with toxic chemicals in the lake. I am not sure if it reopened.

You do not have to be military. When we went we never saw anyone else there. Narrow gate to get through, though!

No you don’t! We visited a few years ago and it was totally free and open. We pulled in late (maybe 9 or so) the gate was open, grabbed a spot and that was it. Enjoy white sands!!
