The country put up signs saying you could only stay 7 out of 30 days. They are not taking care of the vault toilets.

We went past the first dirt road where the Jackson Park sign is to the next dirt road south of there. We did that because the trees were to close to get through without scratching up our 35' fifth wheel. There are lots of roads that snake through the trees back in here, but it does open up to some nice flat spots to park even larger rigs than ours. Looks like it could get pretty muddy back in here if it rained for any length of time.

Easy access. No frills campground. No hosts. No fees. Could clearly see where others had gotten stuck after rains, but we had no problem accessing our “site” or walking around. Do recommend walking in to make sure you have adequate clearance.

They had running water once but a water truck operator started filling his truck there and the town’s people were paying for it. So they shut it off. Then he started filling his truck at the fire department. So they shut it off there. So thanks allots water truck driver. If you need a tank of water go across the street and buy a Pie and ask them for water. They will be glad to help.
Going into the camp is easy and there’s plenty of space.
Is it run down?
Well for only being taken care of by volunteers of the town, it’s not so bad.
Leveling is super easy with a flat shovel. Yes the ground is a dirt sand mix so it might not be the best if it rains. But the thick sand can cause problems if you’re not paying attention.
If you drive all the through the campground you will hit BLM land.

The place is all dirt roads so you may want to avoid it during monsoon season. It rained briefly while I was there, and the roads turned to soft mud, but had dried by morning.
There is a fair amount of litter present; mostly cigarette butts and small bits of plastic.
Overall, not a bad place to stop, but by no means is it a "destination"

The first site, which is the one we took, had large ruts around it, which showed that during a recent storm someone got very stuck, so be careful if it rains. Just know that the pie place is closed on Tuesday, and when we got there on Monday, we paid $12 for a 6 inch pie. It's a novelty, but we won't' go again.

Stayed a couple nights to explore the area. We were the only ones there the whole time. There are some low hanging trees and ruts that would make a large rig harder to maneuver in some places, scout ahead. Plenty of shade, there is cactus around the base of most trees. The Gathering Place (good pies) is in walking distance. Will be back.

I probably wouldn’t drive a big rig or a trailer in without hiking in first and determining where you want to park. This is essentially boondocking. No facilities, pack it in pack it out. Super dark at night as there is none of the usual campground lighting. Only one other camper while we were here. We parked our vans side by side in a generous space surrounded by small pines, scrub and cactus. Plenty of spots for a hammock if we had planned on staying. Other options in this area are the Pie Town RV and BLM.
