My son and I stayed here. There was trash everywhere, so please if you’re gonna stay there clean up after yourself.

Beautiful area, but lots of trash around. Unfortunately lot of campers just don't care! We enjoyed our stay. We cleaned up a lot of trash, but walking around the campground just makes you sick to see all the trash around on the ground.

We stayed for one night and a day and got the perfect spot right by the water. We took our kayak and paddled and had a lovely campfire. We have a 30 foot class c and had no trouble.

All sites are on a lake. However, there was some trash around the sites. Nothing a little clean up wont fix. Some glass in the water so be aware. Overall, this was a great spot to boondock. Water, propane, groceries, etc. are all within a 30m drive.

Campground closed for maintenance starting July 14th for general maint. and cleaning. TVA rep said it would be closed for a few weeks. I arrived on July 13th in the evening and was kicked out the next morning at 8:30 ☹️. I camped here last fall and loved it. No facilities except trash bins and porta- potties during prime season.

Site is beautiful and lakeside. We reached there on Sunday 23rd May 2021 around 5 pm and nothing was available. Crowded and taken by locals. Looked as if they are there for weeks. Multiple sites are taken by one family. I would not come back here again.

We arrived on Tuesday and were fortunate to get a great spot right on the water. It was perfect for our solar as we had sun during the day then shade in the late afternoon. We are towing a 30 ft fifthwheel with an F350.
There were probably half a dozen sites that could accomodate us. The place got pretty busy on the weekend so do not expect to arrive Thursday or Friday to stay the weekend. There was a fair amount of traffic in and out but our site was far enough off the road for it not to be a bother. I did notice the sherrif came through at least once a day. Maybe they were making note of people on sites as there is a 14 day camping limit. There were port-o-lets but we used our rig so I cannot comment. Overall a great free site with good enough cell service for me to work and stream video with Verizon. It will be on our list if we are ever in the area again.

Drove through on 4/6 and the area was open for camping. However there were no Porta-potties like other reviews mention so they must not have them out for the season yet. There are plenty of dumpsters for trash service.
Pretty empty on a Tuesday. Pretty much every site looks out over the water. Great place! Very easy to get to.

Not sure about the other comment claiming a $15/night charge, however the gates are still locked as of 4/25/2023. I am awaiting a call back from TVA to find out when or if they plan on reopening and will update my note with any information I can relay. There is more dispersed camping at the end of Old Rhea Springs Rd. if you continue on the gravel road to the north of Jackson Island's turn off. The road has a large pothole but was passable. The "campsites" are not flat and the route to get to these are rutted and full of roots but if you need a place for the night it may be worth your consideration. Bring extra trash bags.
“Did Not Stay”
noted 4/21/2023
Did not stay because we were looking for a free stay. This is dry camping for $15 a night. The five stars are for the response from the man on the phone. “Nothing’s free anymore.” Priceless.
