MTB trails across the street and the 60 some mile Great River paved recreational trail runs through the park. Great value and location makes up for the noise. Main line train track right across the river in Iowa. A busy road and spur train track next to the park. Plenty of room for dogs and kids. Boat ramp in the park. Great fishing and the nearby Lock and Dam #14. You can fish from the park but when the water is low (late summer and fall) it is difficult because of the shore line. This is the perfect place to camp if you are in the Quad Cities for an event. Easy access to all cities.

Perfect location and very easy to get to. sites were decently spaced out with picnic tables and fire rings. also sites are all grass which id say is a plus especially for tents! Nice sunset to watch from the campsite/water. obviously some noise from others but not bad at all.

Enjoyed sitting by the river!

Only one dumb as far as I can tell which can get busy when everyone’s leaving in the morning.

I think we picked the only site with almost no shade and the temp was hitting 90 and humid in mid August which wasn’t surprising. Great campground right on the Mississippi so we could watch the boats and barges go through lock 14 right across on the Iowa side. See our YouTube channel for some video.

We went to the website link--takes you to Rock Island County Forest Preserve District which has info about a few different county parks. One can only make reservations to Loud Thunder, so we did that for our first stay. It currently only has one site with sewer hookups; we used just water and electric. They have another section coming up soon, though--almost near completion. Very nice woods/trails. In close proximity to Lake George, a great place to canoe/kayak/fish. We enjoyed this park but wanted to get a little closer to the Quad Cities.
We then spent several nights at Illiniwek in Hampton, and it became one of our favorite campgrounds. Right on the Mississippi River. Tents can camp right on the bank, though RV campers have to walk perhaps 20 yards to the shore. Right on the bike trail, great walking paths, and just 30 minutes or less from almost anywhere in the Quad Cities.

Nice campground with most sites have plenty of shayed right on the Mississippi river. This was going to be just a stop over on the way to the Bad Lands in SD. I decided to relax here for a few more days and ride some of the Mississippi river bike trail.

Quite a bit of noise but dies down at night. Overall not a bad spot to stay the night on the way to somewhere else unless you’re a bicyclist. It’s right on the Great River Bike Trail.
