Review: Holiday Acres Campground
Our recent stay at Holiday Acres Campground was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome and targeted by both the staff and the locals. It's hard to say definitively if this place was racist, but the behavior we experienced certainly felt that way.
Firstly, we were harassed and intimidated by the locals. They would drive around our campsite at night, yelling racial slurs and other offensive comments. This created a disturbing and unsettling atmosphere that made our stay extremely uncomfortable.
The staff were equally unpleasant. We were falsely accused of peeing in the pool without any evidence, which seemed more like an excuse to target us than a genuine concern. Additionally, one staff member consistently displayed unprofessional and rude behavior. She berated one of us and treated him condescendingly, as if he were a boy rather than an adult. She exhibited this condescending behavior with the locals as well.
Requests for assistance were met with eye rolls and obvious reluctance. Her dismissive and offensive attitude was consistent throughout our stay. The final straw came when we were kicked out for calling her a name after she persistently treated us with disrespect. While name-calling isn't appropriate, her behavior towards us was intolerable and unprovoked.
The facilities were also abysmal. The bathrooms constantly smelled like fart, possibly due to the high sulfur content in the water, which only added to the overall negative experience. The showers were yellow with orange bits that could be scraped off, and the lack of cleanliness was appalling. The playgrounds looked so poorly maintained that you could get a splinter just from looking at them.
To make matters worse, we were falsely accused of stealing by a local camper. Despite promises to review security footage, no evidence was provided, and no apology was offered for the false accusation.
The pool area was another disappointment. The pool was cold, likely because it had just been filled. While the pool area itself was nice, it lacked lounging chairs, which would have enhanced comfort and relaxation.
Overall, our experience at Holiday Acres Campground was horrific. The combination of harassment from locals, the hostile attitude of the staff, the filthy facilities, and the lack of amenities made for an extremely uncomfortable and distressing stay. I would strongly advise anyone considering this campground to stay far away, especially if you are looking for a welcoming and respectful environment.

For 2022, we contracted with Holiday Acres at ~$7,200 plus other fees for a 6 month term. On month 4 we sat with the owner Paul B and explained in person that we were leaving for a few weeks to get delamination repairs quoted and that we would be returning (we live 15min from the site). I also sent a text message to manager Jenny M to this effect, which was also acknowledged. ~4 days later, Holiday Acres staff went in and razed our site - removing items and weed whipping all flowers and plants to the ground. After months of work to fix and repair the site at our expense, owner Paul B sent a text reply that it was indeed Holiday Acre employee negligence.
I strongly recommend against this campground for seasonal or weekend camping. The rates are very high for a dilapidated campground (not a resort). When we first looked at becoming seasonals early 2022, we were told by Jenny M that the sites don't flood. The majority of this campground is in an AE Floodway and aside from seasonal sites where gravel has been brought in, the sites are boggy grass. Class A and fifth wheels beware; weekend campers get stuck frequently. Aside from a small cluster of sites adjacent to the bar parking lot, there are no sewer hookups (pumpouts are paid extra). Trees and large branches fall every storm. Bath houses are closed/disgusting. Playground is nicknamed 'splinter city'. Pool opened Sep 2022 for a few days, for photos and the claim that it was open this year. Commitments made and not delivered on include 50A service (30A or less throughout), security gates (paid for RFID cards that were never needed), paved roads (small section of the campground got done), bath houses, etc.

Did not use the bathhouse or laundry (which was in the section across the road). Playground was massive wood one, kids liked it. Lots of permanents.
Overnight it rained non stop. By morning there was alot of water over the grass and on the roads. By the time we packed up we could see the creek at the back of the park rising quickly as well as the water on the ground through the park getting deeper and more widespread. We ended up bogged with our tow vehicle just sloshing around in the muddy grass while trying to pull our trailer out. For an hour we attempted to get our vehicle and trailer out, using sticks, our leveling blocks etc to get some traction under the wheels. Did not work. We were about to call road side assist for a tow truck when someone (i assume a worker) went past with a tractor to help other people in the same situation as us out of the park. Thankfully they pulled our trailer out onto the non flooded area of the road for us to hook our vehicle up to.
Personally I didnt feel the park was that well kept, but I highly recommend you do not stay here if there had been alot of rain or there is alot forecast. Staff were very friendly on check in, however I do feel with the creek at the back they should be aware of the weather as some permanent residents told us this always happens when there is alot of rain.
