Not private but a nice view and close to Capitol Reef. Suggest Burr Trail as better alternative but no issues.

This was a really cool site and the drive is incredible (and scary). The stars were amazing and the area was flat enough to set up our two tents and probably a few more. We also found some neat rocks for any rock hounders out there- some ping pong ball sized geodes and plenty of agate and jasper along the shoulders on the way up. There are lots of shale deposits in the area but we didn’t have time to check for fossils.

There are multiple campgrounds that are around $10/night, but none of them have AT&T service like this free spot.. Escalante is 1 hour from this spot and Boulder is about an hour too. So this is a primative place to camp, but the only place in the Escalante area in higher elevation with cell service. We highly recommend walking as far as you’d like along the creek at Upper Box Canyon (stunning and where most of my pictures are from).
The drive to Boulder gives Zion feels by the amazing bridge.
The best part of our time in Escalante was the Canyoneering adventure with Excursions of Escalante, woth every penny https://www.yelp.com/biz/excursions-of-escalante-escalante
Kids and up to older adults love this experience. It’s a full experience, you learn more just to canyoneer - also safety in the wildness, they feed you, and entertain you and make you feel so safe and comfortable.
In Boulder we liked eating at the food truck for breakfast or lunch, Burr Trail, and fancy dinner at Hells Back Bone Grill.
In Escalante, stop by all the local shops, but the pizza was heaven at Escalante Outfitters.
