The shade provided by the trees was a welcome respite from the summer heat. It also provided ample privacy from neighbors on either side. Neighboring sites are spread out nicely. The area across the road from the site is undeveloped and recently cleared for forest maintenance but still looks nice. This campground loop is very quiet.

Stayed at site#142. It's an absolutely beautiful site with nice space between the only site within view. Great access to the water. The shoreline is rocky and mostly clay. Lots of tall trees around for nice shade. There is a great view of an island from the site and would be a really easy kayak trip out there. The bugs are pretty intense (katydids everywhere!) but it's nature so no complaining here :) The bathhouse is not close at all. A bike would be recommended if you think you'll need to get there. Dump stations had a huge line so I would suggest checking out early (especially on weekends). There is also a really cute campstore.
My only gripe is with the ease of access to the site itself. We were working with a 27' travel trailer and F250 (and were setting up at night). The angle your rig has to be at to back in there is crazy. My husband has a class A CDL and wasn't a fan. Once you get the angle right the incline is the next obstacle. It's pretty intense. All that being said, it's well worth it!!! One of the best sites we've had.

I camped in this state park in mid-January, it was during a cold snap that had temps in the 20s at night, and there was a stiff wind blowing off the lake. Most all camp sites are on the water, and are well spaced for privacy. The bathhouse was clean and heated. I gave a four star rating because my campsite was not well maintained.

Just as many have written in their reviews, the sites here are great and have stunning views of the lake. The water was clean and calm—our kids swam and kayaked for hours. The campground was largely empty so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The sites were well maintained and easily accessible. We have a 27’ travel trailer and stayed at site #177 which was a pull through. From what we saw of the other sites near us, it would have been easy to back in to any of them. Bathrooms/showers were a short walk away and very clean.
Our only complaint was the ants. Within hours of arrival they INFESTED our camper and truck. We have traveled all over the US and this was by far our worst experience with nature. It was shocking. We already practice keeping our campsite free of food droppings and other trash but these ants were everywhere and didn’t let up despite much of our attempts to deter them. No clue why this happened but we would suggest coming prepared to combat them.
Overall it was a great place to stay!

One neighbor left because they couldn't even get in their site. Another one left because they got infested with ants. 2 of us stayed but had to deep clean our campers when we got home. The sites were not maintained. We trimmed all the thorns at our site. The trail is not maintained. If you go, take LOTS of seven dust and hedge clippers! Also, the water and electric were on the other side of each other. We had to use an extension on both!

This is a massive campground on Lake Thurmond, absolutely massive. We get to the site (site 114) and I do pre-walk since its about 100 yards down an access road and sites 113 and 144 T off. Most of the ones on this loop are situated like that. I'm like... ok... Lets start by saying we have about a 22' trailer, much bigger and this wouldn't have happened. I know I'm not going to go head in and negotiate the turn because 113 was occupied, if it had been empty you can nose into 113 and back into 114. I started to back down the curved access path (they should take out a tree or two, just saying). and spent the next 30 minutes mustering every ounce of backing skill I could. 20 or 30 exceedingly frustrating minutes later I get it backed into the site and steel myself for the next issue, leveling. I look at the spirit level I have on the nose and miracle of miracles its dead nuts level. Que the halleluiah chorus of camper angels... Setup after that was normal. Well... normal except that the water and electric are on the camp side so I had to run the cord/hose under the trailer, no big deal. Having them on the utility side would have ruined the view you are rewarded with once the 7th level of Dante's Inferno is negotiated.... What a view, picture postcard worthy. 114 is about 25 yards from the lake and its a perfect little rocky beach to go sit, wade, swim let the dogs frolic or just be....
Site 114 is a great site but be aware what you are getting into, you will be rewarded with outstanding views, solitude and no one (except 113) for a long distance.
The bath house is a drive, I wouldn't want to walk it but that's why we have bathrooms. I did use our outdoor shower to bath but with no one around if you wanted to do it au-natural you sure could...

Camp staff are always polite. Dollar general in Modoc, gas, propane, bait available. No fast food nearby, but who cares were camping. Check out Eddie Mason Stripper guide. Best fishing ever with a great guy.
Great place to kayak, bald eagles, fish eagles, shore birds and tweety birds. Lots of good bike riding with safe roads.

We always enjoy camping at Hamilton Branch each year when we stay here. It's one of our favorite campgrounds. The park has over 150 spacious lakefront campsites that have water and electric. They can accept up to 40 ft. rigs in some campsites; 30 ft. in most campsites. A large number of the campsites are configured in a "T" shaped access, so backing skills will come in handy. We have a 33' motor home. Our favorite campsite is #177 because it is one of the few pull through sites, has a beautiful view out over the lake all the way to the Georgia side, is close to restroom/shower facilities, and is nice and large (as are most of the campsites). It also faces west, so it's very satellite friendly. The sites are heavily treed, so if you have a satellite dish mounted on the roof of your rig, you may not be able to connect to the satellite. We use a portable King Dish TV satellite dish, so we can put our dish right on the lakeshore and connect easily. There is good cellular connectivity (2 bars of AT&T for us). If you have a boat, you can launch it at the boat ramp. There are quite a few sites where you can moor your boat right at your site. There are quite a few restroom/shower houses, but many campsites are not within an easy walking distance of one, so be sure to check the park map carefully if that is important to you. This campground is normally quiet. The campground hosts are friendly and helpful. The fishing and boating is very good.
