Our site was a back-in next to the creek and was paved with a picnic table. No fire pit, but there was a grill. Good location for exploring the town and nice hiking up the hill right from the campground. There probably would be some road noise, but with our windows closed, we heard nothing. One bar of ATT LTE, but it was pretty unusable with out boosting.

Nice wooded creekside location .
But sites are really close together more like an rv park.
Firepits and tables were great ,abundant wood in the hills for gathering .

We love the 1st come 1st served model (thanks Gulpha!) and had no issue finding a site at around 10am on a Sunday morning in November - even with a 40' rig. During the week we were here (early November) there was always a site available.
Road noise can be a bit much if you're looking for quiet - or if you're trying to sleep in past 6am.
Lovely forested trails right from the campground - including a 15 mile loop on the Sunset trail if you're into mountain running or hiking.
Cash or credit card only at an automated pay station - which means there are no refunds or ability to change sites once you've paid. Also, if the card machine goes down, make sure you have exact cash (it happens).

Nice area with scenic views. Water that flows down a steam that you can relax in and rock climbing. Just beware of the crawfish that might pinch your toe. There are toilets but no shower areas for those who may need them.

We arrived to a "No Vacancies" sign. The precious camp host saw us and gave us an available hostess site. We were so grateful. The campground is very peaceful with the Gulpha creek running along side it. Our children (10 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed playing in the creek. (Rocks on the bottom of the creek are extremely slick. I would advise bringing water shoes for the kids.) Trees and grass are abundant throughout the campsite. We had plenty of grass for the kids to run and play in...it felt like we had our own back yard. After walking the campground, we think the perfect spot would have been number 24. This site backed up to the water and also had plenty of grass for the kids to play in. Also, the restrooms and grounds were very clean at all times.

Our site was next to the creek, which was fantastic. It was level, paved, and provided us with water, electric and sewer. As has been noted, the public bathrooms are spotless and modern, although they do not have showers. Maintenance and trash collection at the campground are excellent and the camp host came to greet us right away. There are so many trees throughout the campground and the sites are well spaced. It's really beautiful here.
We suggest that you not miss the free NPS-guided tour of the Fordyce bathhouse, a visitor center of the National Park Service on Bathhouse Row. At this time of year it is offered daily at 11 AM and 2 PM, and is a great introduction to this park.

There are a few things this small campground has going for is. First is the creekside location. Even if you can't get a site right next to the creek (although they are clearly the best), you can still hear the creek from all over the campground. Second is the proximity to numerous trails - even one that leads right into town. Finally, is the fact that the entire campground is first, come first serve. For people like us who don't enjoy making reservations this is such a welcome policy. We showed up on Sunday morning around 10am and easily found a creekside site.

Site 36 is level and deep enough for our 32' motorhome and toad (but just barely). 50 amp/water/sewer at all sites but some don't have fire rings. Clean bathrooms but no showers. Easy access to NP downtown, hiking trails, supplies etc. Some have talked about road noise but we had windows open and didn't bother us.
Site 36 has a nice shady grass area where you can sit and watch the creek flow by. Some of the sites across the road from creekside sites may be hard to level a long trailer/motorhome but almost every site there has decent shade.
Note: if you have NPS Golden Access pass it's $15/ night. The regular annual pass doesn't get a discount 😖

We arrived on a Thursday and there were about 15 sites to choose from. I think we got one of the best, right on the creek and by a little water fall too. The camp hosts call into the rangers at 10 and 4 and give them the number of open sites left. We called on our way in and got the good news, though I would recommend having a plan B just in case they are filled in.
All the sites are full hook up and paved. The kiosk where you pay is simple to use and takes credit cards. The camp hosts saw us walking around looking at the available sites and gave us a lift and tour in the golf cart.
We played in the creek. We hiked the 4 mile round trip trail into town several times. We had only planned to be in the area for 3 nights, but loved the campground and the hot springs area so much we kept extending our stay, which is a great advantage to a no reservation campground.

Nice access to trails. You can hike into Hot Springs which is nice! The highway next to the campground is noisy and the sites offer little privacy.
