“Horrible road and nothing special”

We scouted this campground to see if we would like to stay. The road was horrible, I spent the whole time dodging potholes. The sites were nicely spaced but there was no privacy between them. Canyon Rim Campground has better views and more wildlife.

This is your typical $8 Forest Services Campground. Pit toilets, trash dumpster and water spigots. Road and RV parking pads are crumbling. Sites are not too close but you’re definitely near your neighbors. No dump and very slow cell internet. Again, not bad for a no frills forest service campground but not $20 a night. ... more

Oh, only a few sites are first come first serve. The rest are reservatio. No idea why.

We loved the week that we spent here. It is a 10 minute drive down to the reservoir, but this campground is up on the rim in the Ponderosa Pines. The Red Canyon Trail ran thru camp and we enjoyed biking and trail running on it. The campground is right next to the Red Canyon Lodge and Green Lake, which was a fun spot for our son to f... more
We loved the week that we spent here. It is a 10 minute drive down to the reservoir, but this campground is up on the rim in the Ponderosa Pines. The Red Canyon Trail ran thru camp and we enjoyed biking and trail running on it. The campground is right next to the Red Canyon Lodge and Green Lake, which was a fun spot for our son to fish.
There were a couple of more scenic campgrounds right up the road toward the Visitor Center but they were full when we arrived on a late-July Monday. We were glad we ended up where we did because there was lots for my son to do with the lake and the lodge. We ate lunch there one day on the patio and it was lovely.
No showers, but you can drive a short distance to other Forest Service showers.
