Pretty little park in the banks of the Suwannee River. First come. No problem getting a site on weekend in January. Only outside showers. No restaurants nearby. Very little cell service. Don’t plan to do any work from here. Price was for a tent site.

Gornto Springs County Park is located on the banks of the Suwannee River and has a clear spring that has been developed into a swimming hole. The park could be quite lovely as it is nestled into a grove of old live oaks. However, it suffers from one flaw. The campsites are not separated from the boat ramp/day use area. This means that you can expect to have visitors wandering through your campsite at all hours as they come to use the boat dock or do some bank fishing. Or maybe just start a campfire and hang out for the evening. You will also get the noise and commotion of the late night/early morning fishing boats. It is unfortunate. What you will get is a waterfront campsite with access to the developed swimming area in the crystal clear spring (only open during daylight hours). Fortunately for us, the park was lightly used in early November. We were the only campers for our entire stay. That meant we could get the one campsite that has some degree of separation from the day use area. This site (no numbers) is located beside the boat ramp but away from the parking area. If we had been in one of the other spots, we likely would have cut our visit short. Whichever site you choose is likely going to need a big stack of leveling blocks. In November the park did not have any crowds just a few people a day launching boats, fishing, or hanging out. In fact most visitors seemed to come by to dump their household trash in the park's dumpsters. I would normally expect a park like this to have a trash problem, but kudos to the caretakers who make sure the area is kept clean.

The charm of the place is that it is right on the Suwanee River and there is a spring in the middle of the park that is fenced in and open to the public for swimming. We were here in December so we didn't swim even though the water is 73 degrees year round. It is a great place to be with a canoe or kayak. It was a quiet place while we were there as we were the only campers. A few fishermen came through for brief periods. The camp host was very nice and helpful. There are water and electric sites for $20 but our primitive site was just $10.
If you don't mind rustic and out of the way, I'd recommend this campground for a little piece of scenic old Florida.
