Tight. Rough. Dirty. TRASHY! Drove in and out, never to come back.
Limb hanging down tore up the AC cover. We were in a Chevy Trail Boss with the Off Road Package and a 22' camper.

Disgusting!
Don't pretend to be able to use this campsite... People live there and in unclean conditions... To think that these are national lands! It's truly sad!

So, if people are going to treat free, dispersed camping areas like they have Gordon Gulch, I'd prefer the forest service make them pay areas. Obviously there are people living in spots, some spots have enough trash in them that it's hard to tell if they are vacant or not. We found piles of trash within 50 yds. of our site. What looked to be an old mining vent hole filled with garbage. Broken down tent trailer in one spot with more trash piled on top.
There was a fair amount of traffic, both people looking for sites and ATV/Dirt bikes. The dust was somewhat expected when we had to camp closer to the road.
Then there was the 2:00 AM wakeup call of a 15-20 minute barrage of gunfire. Who thinks it's cool to start firing weapons at 2:00 AM in a full camp area?
Sorry to rant, but this is our national forest land. We ought to treat it with respect.

For me, it was perfect. It’s February, no one is here and this is the only one open in this area. It does look a bit dumpy, there is trash and 2 practically abandoned trailers. Probably because they cant get them out due to the road being deeply rutted. More space for me, yay. The sites are well spaced out, but a lot are not super flat. Don’t attempt unless you have an off-road trailer and/or decently high clearance vehicle. 1 bar iPhone 13, 2 bars of T-Mobile@home, 3 with weboost. Plenty for working.

The first night we arrived late and had to stay on site 4(?) across from other sites with big campers that liked to yell and use generators and let untrained dogs run around. Could barely sleep and other people tried to park in our spot while we were there. The next morning we went deeper into the fork and snagged site 10. As beautiful as you can get. Saw moose every day and was not disturbed by noise or other people. The site could fit two dozen people if you wanted to.

A nice place, if your vehicle can make it out to sites 12-15. A good starting place for a new bushcraft venture. Roads are sketchy but not too bad. Definitely 4wd required though. Especially in winter/ rainy season.

We drove through looking for options to spend a long weekend hiking. Road was rutted and we could have accessed some of the first sites but they weren't available. More sketchy looking rigs and people than we're used to seeing dispersed camping - no mattresses on the ground, but a van with stacks of bins and a push lawnmower (no grass in sight), and old RVs that look like they haven't moved in a long time. Later we chatted with a local and mentioned wanting to camp here, and he said, "Yeah, the homeless encampment". Your mileage may vary depending on your comfort level.

No Yogi’s though.

The camping area is just off the Highway; could hear a bit of traffic even though it was a Sunday night in Mid May. The problem is the site signs are hard to find and only a few of the spots are level. Not good for a large RV. And the road after you are past the entrance has places on the road where you can bottom out.
