The camp is the most pleasant place out of all of Florida! I've been to everyone in the Tallahasse area and I couldn't recommend any of them, this one though is quiet and peasefull. The bug problem that someone mentioned was non exsistant when I was there, April 2023. A lot of boat traffic daily but it was okay, all people very nice and respect your privacy. The road in is rough but 30' travel trailers came in with no problem. There is a problem with most gps coordinates on most camp grounds, your gps will take you around about 20 miles out of your way and when I got 11 miles from site it was confused and took me in circles, had to stop and ask local to get here. I now use google map on phone to find any camp site! I stayed in a tent the entire time and had good time, come and enjoy, bring your boat or kyak and enjoy!! Cell service for my verizon was okay, my hotspot worked just fine also!

But biting gnats, or "no-see-um's" as the locals call them, really made this trip a bit of a bust. We couldn't have our windows open because the gnats can fit through the screens. And they bite, which turns into an itch after a day, and they're awful! My spouse got probably 20 bites on each leg. I got several on my arms. My kids got bites on their faces and arms. It was not fun.
Then it poured rain save the whole campground was doggy. There is poor drainage and we were afraid we'd get stuck. All in all, not a great camping experience

We decided to risk the drive in to see if there was a spot available for an overnight stay. The unpaved road coming in was well maintained with only a few areas that were bumpy. We snagged one of the two remaining sites. Popular place on a Saturday night. Sites are well spaced out but all visible to each other. People all seem to be very respectful. We have seen everything from trucks with roof top tents all the way up to a decent sized class A. No power or water, plenty of spots to utilize solar panels. The river views are beautiful. The only downside is the bathroom is limited to two porta-potties. They are maintained and not the worst we have seen. We did have quite a few bugs (mostly biting gnats) but it seems to be worse under the trees, where our site is.

I wanted to post an update to the reviews already since it’s been a couple years. Everything in the previous post seems to be accurate still quiet, beautiful trees. Starlink is doable but sites that will work are limited. Needs northern sky

It's just about 8 miles from the turnoff of Hwy 98 to the campground. The first 3 miles (up to the mining company) is paved, and after that easy going to smooth rock/limestone, until you turn west. The last 3.5 miles are a bit bumpy but totally manageable on a wide gravel road. Google maps doesn't show Goose Pasture Road goes all the way to the campground - just keep going past the kiosk for the FloridaTrail/Aucilla Sinks and you'll get there.
It seems you can pretty much pick your spot under the trees, near a picnic table, or closer to the water. The sites aren't clearly defined but there are plenty of trash cans and most sites have a fire pit. Despite the rusitc character of the sites, the campground is charming with Spanish moss-covered oaks and the Wacissa/Aucilla river clear waters flowing by. There were 2 RVs and 1 tent there during my visit and the place was totally quiet. Florida nature all around. Cell signal on T-Mobile was meager 2-3 down and 0.2 up at best.

When I stayed here in 2020 I was the only one until someone pulled in later at night. Had a beautiful, quiet place all to myself. Watched the birds fish in the water and just relaxed. It is near the Aucilla Sinks/Florida Trailhead, which is a unique stretch.

It's a long 7 mile trek down a dirt road, and don't trust your google gps to get you there. It's a beautiful scenic campground, on grass, quite level. No water available, no hookups, but there are porta-potties. There is a dump station [clue: drive behind the fence to access it.] Approximately 10 picnic tables and stone fire-rings. The campground is beautifully shaded with palms and hardwoods. I didn't see any hiking trails.
There is a separate, large campground for groups, which is currently (16 June 2020) closed due to covid19 restrictions.
The main attraction here is the river. Bring your canoe, kayak, or small boat. There is a concrete boat ramp.
All in all, it's just a quiet, peaceful, beautiful place to relax.
