We are from Kansas and we stopped at this particular campsite for one night on our way to Washington State. I have to say that Kansas has some of the nicest State parks I have ever been to. However, this place wasn't much more than a place to spend the night and continue on. First, we stayed at the Cheyanne campground. There was no sign upon entering the State park telling us where to go. We stopped at the office on our way in, but it closed about 30 minutes before we got there. We drove to the first campsite we came upon to ask the camp host. Nobody was there. We then saw 2 young individuals in a Kansas State Park vehicle wearing Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks shirts and we asked them. Guess what?? They didn't know!! Imagine working there and not knowing where Cheyanne campground was! We then went up to the entrance and there was a sign which was not on the main road depicting Cheyanne campground. Finally, we found our campsite. Next, the water spigot was so far away that it was a good thing I had 2 hoses or we would of had no water. Would I ever stay here again. Probably not. It appears to be a very crowded campground. OK for a quick pit stop, otherwise look some place else.

Depend on campground some sites are right on top of each other. We were at Cheyenne Campground and it wasn’t too bad a lot of no show reservations. Bathrooms are old typical State Campground. Free showers! There was also free wifi at our campground!

We have a 42’ 5th wheel and we were tired. Came across this state park on this app. We asked a few questions of people already set up and went and found a great spot for the night. Loved it! Granddaughter even swam.

If you arrive late in the season and want to camp in the Kaw area (the furthest of the campgrounds), the bathrooms here are closed and you’ll have to schlep over to Kanza or Cheyenne to experience the above. I turned tail and went back to shower in the van.
Primitive sites are only 10 bucks and if I’d been in one of those, I wouldn’t have minded so much. Pricing for the different sites feels unnecessarily convoluted and you do have to pay the $5 vehicle entry fee in addition; I was glad I took a photo of the entry board so I could reference it as I drove around.
The air smells sweet and it’s very quiet at night. The sites are pretty well spaced and have lots of mature trees. Sunset on the lake is beautiful!

Campground is Big Rig friendly and has tent camping areas!
There are two dump stations with potable water available, within the Campground!
Activities including biking, hiking, boating, fishing, and wildlife watching! Park and lake appear to be on a migratory route for White Pelicans! Hundreds of these birds were here during our stay! Saw them arriving from the North and departing to the South!
Had 4 Bars Verizon LTE.
Unable to pickup any over the TV, but streamed TV and Videos with the excellent WIFI.
Nearby things to see include the World’s Largest Ball of Twine and the Geographic Center of the 48 States!
Will stay again!
