“Potable water in Colorado!”

Places with potable water are few and far between in Colorado. After dry camping for a few days, we found this place on our way. It has several spots for RV parking.
We were able to dump our tanks and fill our fresh water for free!!! You'll need your own hose to fill. Wish there were more places like this around.

The best dump and fresh water station!!! Walked over to the visitor center and they were so kind and friendly, left a small donation. Defiantly will stop again.

I slept here in my Prius on 2021-07-01. First of all, it's true that there is a lot of (purposefully?) ambiguous and even contradictory signage vis-a-vis whether it is permissible to stay overnight at this rest area. However, there is indeed a sign inside the building with the restrooms clearly stating that you can stay to "rest / sleep" for up to 10 hours. I went ahead and slept in the car. There were at least three others sleeping in passenger vehicles of various types and sizes that night, along with an RV or two, and none of us were bothered. That said, the signs are clear that if your vehicle is left unattended for more than 4 hours it may be towed. Also, as with most rest areas, they do state that you are not allowed to keep returning and spending multiple nights, so this should be just a one-night option.
The restrooms are clean, and there is a water fountain with bottle filling station. There are also two water taps for filling large containers next to the RV dump station. There is a large green space with lots of picnic shelters and room to stretch your legs. There are several gas stations and restaurants (mostly fast food) within a short distance, as well as a City Market grocery store just across I-70. It's also very close to the Fruita Riverfront Trail if you feel like getting out and going for a longer walk along the gorgeous Colorado River; just be mindful of the restriction on leaving vehicles unattended for more than 4 hours.
I much preferred staying in the Rabbit Valley area just west of here, but as I was late getting in this was a fine place to get some rest for a night.

Room for parking, picnic tables and a beautiful area to walk dogs. Regular public bathroom here, too. Easy in and out.

As I travel back and forth between Utah and Grand Junction, CO, there are times I get tired and need to stop to rest before finishing the drive. Hence my SUV, which has a small area in the back for me to lay down and rest when needed.
This morning I woke early to continue my drive, and found a flyer on my windshield. Normally these don't bother me, but this one was rather rude in making an assumption that my vehicle was abandoned. Having tinted windows, I can see where the confusion lies. Most cannot see into the back of my vehicle at night due to this.
Now, back to this flyer. Until this morning, I had told many friends this place was quite nice and a cozy quick stop or stay. As of this morning, I will have to recant this and send them elsewhere, or at least warn them against staying or stopping at this "Rest Area" for fear of having your vehicle towed with you in it while sleeping.
Zero respect for the working class.
Even one of the Fruita Welcome Center volunteers has made it clear assumptions are at the ready. Sad that this had to be written, but it happens.

“Fantastic Visitor Center”

Excellent dump with potable water, nice shaded grassy dog walk, grassy picnic area, clean bathrooms, staffed visitor center with area and state info, restaurants within walking distance.
And it’s free. Leave a donation if you are able. This is a sweet set up!

Excellent dump station! Dump your tanks, fresh water, garbage cans, and even a pet walking area. There are two sewer drains here. Plus adjacent to the highway! All free. Amazing! We wish more welcome centers had this.

It’s a great place for dumping station and resting for a few hours. No overnight staying, but we did stay for a few hours, rested and walked our dogs. Very busy place for dumping.

I dumped here and got fresh water today (May 21, 2019). I called ahead to make sure they were reopened. Whatever the issue was had been fixed. Note that you may want to let the fresh water flow for a few seconds before putting your hose in your tank. I have a habit of doing that everywhere just in case something weird got in my house or whatever. Here the water ran a little murky for a couple seconds before turning clear (and that is having flowed through my filter attached at the spigot).
