Some of the sites have a seawall so it’s hard to get up and down and the water. Depending on the site you’re in it could be a little Sandy area with some mangroves. If you are in the non-pet section With the higher numbers, I believe it’s anywhere from site 214 down to where there is no water I’ll have access unless there are mangroves in the way. You can kayak across the channel on the not so windy day if you kayak along the picnic area and cut over its beautiful back behind Shell Island. I wouldn’t do it on weekends her too much boat traffic there’s beautiful places back there Sandy, and nice to get out of your kayak and take a dip. Hope you enjoy Ft DeSoto. You will enjoy kayaking there and most likely see manatees off of the campsite or the water gets a little deeper.

Yes, IF the water isn't too low or the oyster shells are exposed, though this applies to the interior sites on the water with concrete piles. Those on the lagoon side (facing west usually) have a sand/mud shoreline.

Yes. Most waterfront sites have easy access for kayaks. Some are a short distance from the campsite itself; you may have to carry the kayak to the water’s edge You can also drive with the kayak to the beach and Park area for more paddling choices.

Indeed! Very cool. Some sites are better/easier than others, but the short answer is yes.
