We were trying to find this dispersed camping spot and totally missed the turn, but we are so glad we did, because we found a better area just a short drive down the road from this spot. We were trying to find this dispersed camping spot and totally missed the turn, but we are so glad we did, because we found a better area just a short drive down the road from this spot. Here are the GPS coordinates of the road that you want to turn off on from road 526:

Pull these coordinates up on Google maps and you will see what I’m talking about. If you take this little dirt road, there are AT LEAST twelve good FLAT camping spots. This road is pretty flat and easy to access when it’s dry. We went down this road near “Horsecamp Reservoir #4” (it is labeled on Google Maps) and we saw a guy camping in a pick up truck topper, a school bus, and a tent camper. We were pulling a 22 foot travel trailer with a Ford f-150 pick up truck.

The sites are probably accessible with a 2WD vehicle driving carefully. The established loops felt really private and nice to stay in. Unfortunately the sites were extremely trashy so please bring an extra trash bag or two to help clean up the lingering mess (we tried to pack out some trash but didn't have enough supplies to pack out m... more

Lots of choices for sites. Cooler temps than Cortez. Boggy Draw mountain bike system right there. Chilled vibe. Towns of Dolores, Cortez & Mancos are friendly with great breweries and food as well as groceries, laundry, water and nightlife. Don't miss Dolores River Brewing, Dolores Food Market, Wild Edge Collective Brewery, Kokopelli B... more
