Most campsites are just off any of several roads, 109 included. The site we chose was right by the Sycamore Falls trailhead, good hiking right off camp. Nice ponderosa forest all around, mostly quiet except for the hikers driving by to the trailhead parking during much of the day. The pullout is actually a loop with room for at least 3 campsites, though we had the entire loop to ourselves for a couple days. It clearly is an area that varies with the seasons. April offered good snowmelt runoff that fed the falls and a few lakes, June-Sept is monsoon season which can make travel on muddy roads a nightmare. Will visit again in winter sometime to poke around.

“Secluded, Rough Roads In”

Very secluded camping surrounded by a beautiful forest. The roads are super rough coming in. No Verizon cell service. The dispersed camping is decent but could get muddy if it rains. Some rock fire pit rings.

Started for 109...went so far back past White Horse Lake and ended up around FR 110. Super dispersed and quiet. Just out in the sticks. Stayed 2 days in the Cabelas cabin tent with the dogs...probably had 15 vehicles pass by over 2 days on the road...mostly just atvs. This is true wilderness..lots of ponderous pines amd woods. Found a decent spot as the sun was setting but had to go really slow due to uneven terrain. Not bad access pulling our 33’ 5th wheel. I’m thinking this is a mudders dream after a good rain storm. Saw a herd of elk as well as a big javalina as we were driving in so I’m sure there is plenty of wildlife around.
