I booked for a week here as we head north. I thought there would be a frost-free water source, being that this campground is open year round. My fault for not double checking. We have electricity at least. I'm not sure if the hose at the dump station works yet. It is pretty here. Big boating area. There are things to see within 15 minu... more

We had plenty of space although the campground lacks privacy. There is an access road that runs along the edge, just a couple of feet from the back of our RV. Right next to that is train tracks with regular train traffic. Four trains went through at night and woke us up with horns blaring each time. Next to that is a state road that is not terribly busy and can't really be seen but still has noise. It was fine for a one night stay but I won't go out of my way to stay here again.

Fairport is a nicely kept up recreation area. The grounds a well maintained and the restroom area looks clean. This place feels more like a base camp for people who have boats and like to fish during weekend getaways. I haven’t been into fishing for quite a few years. It’s also good for people just looking to relax and take in the waters of the Mississippi. We were in site 38 and from what I can tell, everything along this line of sites have great river views. It’s pleasant and clean but not much for those looking to hike and bike. There are no hiking trails, the highway is much to busy to bike on safely. There are a couple of nice parks nearby to do that at, but this isn’t the place. Check out Pine Creek Grist Mill for a neat walk. Warning for those with little kids, the playground area is. Non-existent.
The train tracks run next to the campgrounds so there is occasional train traffic and the highway is busy so you have that distraction as well, but both are manageable. There’s a lot of traffic through the park due to the 4 boat launches and you sometimes have cars parked right in your view of the river because the sites closest to the river have a strip of road and parking spaces between the river and campsites.
Was our time here bad? No. We would consider camping here again. I think late October would be the right time to return as things appear quieter here. Again, beautiful views and there’s just something about the river that draws you in and relaxes you. We’ve enjoyed our stay.

This park has great access to the Mississippi River. If you have a boat, you can camp, hit the river, then enjoy the fruits of your labor. The park gets a nice mixture of locals who stay often and travelers who enjoy a couple days and move along. We met folks from Maine to California and enjoyed hearing their stories.
For those who want more in-park activities, I'd suggest driving a few miles east to Wildcat Den State Park with some interesting trails and a larger playground for kids. The campground there will not fit trailers beyond pop-ups though, and deal mostly with tent camping.

This quaint campground is located right on the banks of the Mississippi. The sites are all well spaced, gravel and sites 37-42 have the best river views. The bathhouse is a bit dated, but adequate. There is a boat launch and most of the campers there all came for the river. There is another recreation area a little further up the road that we drove through and it seems to be a bit nicer, still on the river and has concrete pads. Both campgrounds are close to the town of historic town of Muscatine Iowa, which has everything a traveler could need.
