Stayed 1 evening on way south. It was good for one night but not overly pretty. Campground is mostly in a field with a few trees sparsely scattered. Bathrooms were relatively clean but have seen better.
Observatory and program is a nice addition on weekend evenings.

It was absolutely beautiful in the morning and going to mess around on the dunes before everything got too hot. We saw some folks hiking the big dune and they had the same idea. Dune access was pretty easy, pulloffs to the side of the road. The observatory was closed.
As for the campground, it's seen better days for sure. We were in the eagle loop with zero shade, the wagon wheel looked a bit nicer. The lake looked pretty yucky so we didn't get in. Lots of bird life though.
Not great for a long stay but a good night or two stopover. Especially in nice weather.

I would not recommend coming here on a holiday weekend or anywhere near summer. It might be okay in the off season. Though crowded, most campers were friendly and quieted down by 10pm. Only a few tiny trees and it heats up fast. There is plenty of space to fly a kite, ride bikes, or play frisbee/catch. The mosquitos mostly stayed by the ponds. Our campsite was a great spot to see stars, frogs, grasshoppers, birds, and some sort of creature that lived in the ground. Bring a shade canopy! Other than an occasional gust or dust devil, the wind was fairly calm.
The showers had awful water pressure. The restrooms were relatively clean and stocked. Staff restocked the bathrooms at least twice a day - I think there was just more demand than toilet paper. There was soap and a hand dryer, but only one sink worked in the ladies' room. There's also a unisex/handicapped restroom with a shower.
Every staff member we talked to was polite and helpful. We spent about an hour sledding/boarding down the dunes before it got too hot, paddled around the pond, and scored a private observatory program to learn and look through the telescope. One of our kids loved exploring the park and digging in the sand. Mostly we fled the park mid-day to beat the heat. The day use area at Three Island Crossing State Park was a reasonable drive and very shaded and grassy.
I had T-mobile cell signal at the visitors' center but not the campground.

This was a nice campground to stop at for a night. Most of the amenities were shut down for winter, but the sites and vault toilets were extremely clean. Also great to be away from highway noise and light pollution.

We enjoyed the campground with a beautiful sunrise and sunset. The lake was also a beautiful attraction. The dunes are extraordinary. The negative, the the host failed to notify us that our brand new equipment including our furniture would be sprinkled without any notice. Its going to be expensive and time consuming to remove the hard water spots. A heads up would have been profoundly appreciated we could have easily moved our RV and associated equipment.

The campground/park truly feels like it's in the middle of nowhere which is quite peaceful. Very quiet surroundings and at night, the sky lights up with stars. Aside from the dunes, another unique features of the park is an observatory which (seasonally) hosts nighttime stargazing. Aside from the dunes and stars though, there's little else to do in the area.

There is no question that both the Broken Wheel and Eagle Cove campgrounds at the state park are well located to enjoy the dunes and the observatory, since both are within walking distance. However, we found the setup at Eagle Cove to be less than ideal. Sites are very close together -- more like a private parking lot style than a typical public park -- despite the fact that the park is huge and there would have been plenty of room to spread the sites out. Privacy is terrible for the pull through sites, since they have people on both sides as well as front and back; it's better for the backins on the outside of the loops for rigs with large rear windows. This park attracts primarily a weekend crowd, so the best bet is to visit during the week, when a big decline in the number of campers means that the few campers in the park get a little more breathing room.
We also thought the bathhouse facilities were set up strangely. There are reservable covered picnic areas just outside the bathrooms, and I found it a little awkward to be walking through someone's party with my shower bag on my way to the bathroom. The bathroom facilities themselves were definitely showing a bit of wear and could use more diligent monitoring and cleaning.
Other than the privacy issues, the sites were fine. They are gravel but fairly level, and utilities worked well. There is a dual dump station across from the Broken Wheel campground which seemed quite adequate for the size of the two park campgrounds.
The park itself is large, but we found that one day spent at the main attraction (the dunes) was sufficient. There are programs at the observatory on weekend nights that looked interesting, but any visit with clear skies should yield great stargazing opportunities since the skies are extremely dark. Note that your camping fee INCLUDES the $5/day vehicle fee that the park charges for day use.
We had a solid two bars of LTE service with AT&T on our MyFi device, and an additional bar with the mimo antenna, though I failed to measure speeds.

Idaho State uses a discretionary fee structure for campground user fees. There is a standard fee for a site, plus a fee for entering into any State Park, plus another service fee for booking online. However, if the user is 62 or older then the campground fee is half priced at certain parks, but not all parks, and only during the week, M-Th. In addition, if the user has an annual Idaho State Parks and Recreation Passport sticker, then there is no entry fee to the Park. Also, if the user is an Idaho Resident with an Idaho registered RV, then the service fee is waived. Its a bit confusing.
