Off of I-10, a smaller road takes you to the trailhead which has tons of dirt road trails. We found a really nice spot about .5 mile in. Set our tents up and watched the sunset. No hookups, no water. There’s a shooting range not too far away and you can hear all the gunshots, for us they stopped at 7pm but it didn’t bother us a bit. It seemed like a lot of people used the trails because there were a lot of people driving by. Didn’t feel unsafe in the environment. Overall 8.5/10

It’s was a little tight for a 32 foot travel trailer, got back to the third spot and decided to turn around and stay at the second location headed in. It was level and surrounded by cactus. I would recommend keeping your dogs on a leash to keep them protected from cactus. Yes the other reviews are correct, it’s a local shooting range at the end of the road. Shooting did stop at dark 6 pm ish. The locals also seem to be respectful driving by slowly. If your looking for a good over night spot I would say this place seems to be okay. Being a caring dog owner, I don’t think I would put my pup thru the shooting again, but if it was just me I would stay here again. The things you get for FREE camping sometimes isn’t 100% be open minded about that.
Safe travels.

Pretty nice and many more places if you have 4x4 otherwise just a handful of spots close to road but not too noisy at all. Gas and even a Dairy Queen only a mile away and dollar general is about 3 miles away but feels secluded

Was hearing some small gunfire, but figured it would slow down since Super Bowl was later that day. Boy was I wrong. It just got worse, by 3pm it was full 3rd world war. Full heavy automatic fire until 9:00 at night.
Most disturbing was the whistling of ricochet as the rocks from the mountain was sending them all over the place. Figured that Monday would be fine, but full auto started at 6:45am. Packed up and left, should have done that 20 hours earlier. So sad, it was pretty and nice setup for a smaller rig.

Quite a bit of traffic starting early in the morning going to shoot at the base of Desert Peak, Very responsible gun owning shooters getting their practice in. The noise didn’t particularly bother me. I appreciated the flora and fauna, the closeness to Picacho Peak, and the gorgeous sunsets along with the very peaceful night.
Definitely not dog or small child friendly with that much Cactus and some broken glass.

There were only a few sites. We went to the back where there was room, but didn't want to stay at a shooting range in a weekend. Rough road in places, 4WD suggested.

Drove into here late one night at 10pm having no idea what to expect on a holiday weekend. It was completely empty and easy to find. Would like to go back when we have more time to stay.

Anything other than the ONE spot near the entrance (to the left) is a no-go for our 34’ 5th wheel. We made the mistake of continuing on past the first site...lesson learned. We ended up having to back out of trails only suitable for trucks/Jeeps. Scratched our TV and RV in the process.

Heard about this from friends so checked it out. Pulling a 40' fifth wheel so disconnected and went back in to check out what was available. Friends, there was ONE spot that I could have made it to close by the entry. Road got funky and narrows thereafter with native vegetation and scrub which will scratch your larger rigs. Also once in not a lot of space to turnaround. Was on a weekend so a lot of tents and smaller in size setups for those target shooting; which seems to be a large percentage of the patron demographic. I'd come back here again because; as others have pointed out; of its natural beauty and remoteness. Only thing that would prevent me would be the small handful of spots near entry for larger rigs such as mine.

We were running out of daylight after taking a side trip to Biosphere (well worth it, listen to some podcasts for the fascinating back story). There are many roads branching off, and we had one to ourselves. Perfect place to watch the sun set and enjoy a cocktail before bedding down.
