This campground is located just below the Denison Dam on the Red River. It is small with only 19 campsites, all have water, 30 amp electricity, picnic table, and fire pit or grill based on what I saw. Sites vary greatly in length so pay close attention when booking a site online. Most sites have tree cover except for those along the north side of the campground. My site was generally level, though I saw a few that might not be as good. The grounds had been mowed recently which was nice. There are vault toilets near the entrance, which were clean during my visit. The website listed showers as being available, but the shower building (located a little further away) appeared to be closed and non-functional. There is no on-site attendant but I did see a local sheriff's vehicle pass through at one point.
You can view the river from the entrance road or by going down a trail that starts near the end of the road next to the campground. There was a moderate amount of activity on the road from people going to the river. I imagine the amount of traffic there is seasonal. The campground itself was generally quiet at night. There appeared to be a few long-term occupants in poorly maintained campers in a few sites, but most of the sites were occupied by others like myself who were there just for the weekend.
I stayed here to try out the campground as my first choice (Eisenhower State Park) was full. This is a good alternate choice since you are close to the river and to Lake Texoma. I visited the state park and it was only about a 10-minute drive away. I would not hesitate to stay here again (though I can only hope the temperature won't be in the high 90s in late September the next time I come here!).
Lee Hughes would stay here again
