We had a 2 night reservation at this place. It's a well kept campground, however if you want to have a broken leaf spring or other damage to your RV, this would be the place to go to. We had a 2 night reservation at this place. It's a well kept campground, however if you want to have a broken leaf spring or other damage to your RV, this would be the place to go to. THE ROAD IS AWFUL! I live in the country and have driven on washboard roads with potholes. Nothing compared to the road leading to this campground. If we hadn't paid ahead of time, I would have turned around and found another place to camp. I sent the park a review and they responded that they were sorry. Their equipment for roads was broken and they were working on it. Unless they grade the road leading to this campground, avoid the road to it. Your vehicles will be lucky to come out unscathed.

First time staying at Curt Gowdy. We stayed on Crystal Lake and liked it as it appeared less crowded than the other sites near Granite Springs lake. Also, our site was a bit protected from the wind and had fairly good shade. Unfortunately, it also wasn’t the best as you had to walk down a steep hill to access the water. We were hoping to do some stand up paddle boarding but it was very difficult to get into the water due to the hill plus the wind was fairly strong the days we were there so only went out briefly. Also, you are not allowed to swim in the lake which was a bummer for our boys. It is a very peaceful and beautiful area and there are many other sites that do have good water access. I know the one next to us, C166, looked like a good site. We also checked out the other sites and it looked like C176, C180, C181 and C190 had good water access. There are also lots of mountain bike trails that look very good to ride. The only other issue is we had zero cell service with Verizon, even when using a signal booster. We had to go to higher ground or the Visitors Center near the entrance to get any service.
Wilbur would stay here again
