Overall Rating
Off season you don’t need a reservation, but you need to buy a permit at the visitors center. Quiet, we’ll maintained series of campgrounds. I stayed at Sherman, but any location within the park would be great. Some sites in other locations have electricity during off peak- but no water. $10 extra.

We were in Sherman Hills Loop site SH-132. Amazing view of the water and rolling hills around us! We didn't use them but bathrooms were close by. Great place for water sports in warm weather!
There are lots of hiking trails in CGSP and more than you can count in the surrounding area. Definitely check out Vedauwoo, it's a short but great hike!
Wyoming is awesome but be prepared for anything when it comes to the weather. When camped here in late May 2022, we got snowed on and temps got down to the upper teens. It's Wyoming so it's basically always windy but don't let that stop you from getting out to enjoy the trails and beautiful scenery.
We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This has got to be one of the most well kept secrets in Wyoming. We chose this because we needed a break from the chaotic hustle and bustle of interstate and city. This has got to be one of the most well kept secrets in Wyoming. We chose this because we needed a break from the chaotic hustle and bustle of interstate and city. What we found is a place of contentment and peace. We drove in to see what was open. What sites were available had no hookups. We had no water electric or sewer but what this park offers is splendid views, miles and miles of trails and tranquility worthy of contemplation. Reservations can get you limited hookups so plan ahead because they need two days notice. Spaces are separated and private with water views at every one. Most are fairly level but you will need some nerves to get you there. Main road in has spectacular views and steep grades. Roads to sites are not paved, can be rough so go slow and plan ahead with a GPS map to make sure you choose one that won't get you stuck. We did it with a short bed pulling a fifth wheel. Had no cell service and loved it. Serious place to unwind. We plan on going back for a week or two break from the world.
