This is a easily accessible spot close to the highway and the town of Slidell, where you can find everything you need. Except propane, couldn't find a close propane dealer so fill up first. You are suppose to have a Wild Louisiana Stamp to camp here as well which cost $9.50 a year, or there is a daily rate as well, think it was $2 a day. You can pick this up anywhere they sell fishing license. I got mine at the Walmart in Slidell.
The camping area is basically a big grass yard with some large trees on half of it and the other half is open grass yard. There is one picnic table under the trees next to a dish washing station. There is a water spigot here that you can attach a hose to. We used the water a lot, but not sure if you should drink it. There are also porta potties in the corner of the camp ground and a nice public boat ramp that gets a bit of traffic.
The Pearl River is about 100 yards away from the camp ground which is really a pretty area to go paddle around in, if you don't mind the snakes and alligators. There is Honey Island Swamp Tours right there if you would rather do a paid trip for $23 per adult.
Since Mardi Gras was in full swing while we were here it made a good spot to park the rig and drive the car into New Orleans which took about 30-40 minutes, a little far.
There is a self clearing permit station at the end of the road by the camp area. All you have to do is fill out the free permit and drop it in the box at check in. Then drop the check out portion when you leave. There is a WMA ranger station right on the edge of the camp area where rangers come and go all day, but they never checked me for the Wild Louisiana Stamp or permit info or anything. I think the stay limit is 14 days, but they don't seem to care vary much.
All in all I had a great time here. Other campers came and went. All were nice. I never worried about someone stealing my stuff. Would recommend this area to anyone, especially if you want to fish or check out the bayou. And cell service was good.

Campsite is an open area that can fit any size rig. No structured sites just remnants of campfires here and there. There is a check in/out box at the bulletin board where you fill in a form. We were never asked about a stamp or payment during the 5 days we stayed (drop box was jammed full, so not checked often), though we would have been happy to pay a small fee for this nice quiet little place. You can hear some highway noise and there is a little traffic now and then from people bringing boats to the launch or going to the swamp tour just next door. Port-a-potties on site, and I think there was water in the middle, but other campers were set up very close to it so we never bothered to check it out. Just a few minutes from anything you might need in Slidell. We stayed during Mardi Gras and there were only 3 other campers or RVs there.

Went to back to the (almost free) Crawford Landing Wildlife Management Area near Slidell Louisiana. A decent little boondocking/dry camping spot to camp if you need an inexpensive stop-over off of I-10...
