we absolutely loved this place; stayed two nights as it was so perfect for us. Wonderful hiking trails through the forest and down to cranberry Lake or out to the vast untouched beach. One of the most beautiful and relaxing places we have stayed in a long time. Very clean bathrooms and showers as well! Note: don’t listen to the complaints about the naval jets; it is part of the fabric of this part of Washington. When we heard them overhead, we heard the sound of freedom. They go over intermittently; if the noise bothers you for a few seconds at a time, bring earplugs. But just don’t miss this beautiful place!

Loved the 1 day we were their, was a quick trip but enjoyed the visit a day before 4th July. Differently book 2-3 months in advance. We got luck with an unreserved spot that was booked up the rest of the week.

I read some reviews of this park prior to our visit, and saw that the jet noise was a concern. We live near a military base, so I thought we would be fine because we are used to air traffic. Holy cow, I was wrong. It is currently 12:34 a.m. and Growler jets are STILL flying overhead. It was fun watching them during the day while playing at the beach, such a thrill to see them doing maneuvers. It got a little annoying back at camp when we couldn't hear each other over dinner, but we tried to keep it fun for the kids by looking for jets between the trees and talking about their importance. However when it became impossible to get the kids to sleep because it seemed like after 10 their route took them directly over us, we decided to start to look for another campground for the remainder of our visit to Whidbey.
Make sure you Google their scheduled training for your visit, and if it says night training I would seriously stay somewhere else and just visit Deception Pass during a day visit.
Also, it's a little sketchy if you have a big rig. Bring lots of blocks and nerves of steel for driving amongst the trees if you do have a large RV.

Following a trail or the roadway it’s about a 15 minute walk to west beach. Watching the sunset with whales blowing and sea lions diving around really made the experience wonderful. Showers take tokens which you can get near the campsites. The exchanging machine only takes single dollar bills. 3 minute shower for 50 cents, but the hot water and pressure is worth it!
We saw very few people while strolling a round the miles and miles of trails.
Some of the sites are pretty uneven some bring plenty of leveling blocks and what not.

The park is in a great location for nature, scenery and a quick drive into Oak Harbor (~10 miles). Spent an entire day with the puppy and the kids on the North Shore beach, soaking in the sun, following trails and finding cool things on the beaches.
Check the site pictures critically. Many sites have trees and logs that might keep your slides from coming out. We had to very carefully position our trailer to get the dinette slide out and it came inches from a tree. Sites are Water/Electric with no sewer. Dumpsite can be visited on the way out.
The pathing to get to the sites requires a steep climb and several areas where trees are right against the road making it a white knuckle squeeze on the narrow one lane paths.
As others have said, the Navy Jets can be doing patterns and when they come over the park they are very low (~500ft) and thus very loud.
Not great for kids being able to do their own thing. Play areas are no where near the sites. And the roads are hilly and narrow which make free roaming bike riders a safety risk (depending on age, of course).
Would go again though as the beaches are worth it.

We stayed at the Deception Pass Campground for 3-nights during our jaunt around Whidbey Island. We liked the location of the campground, as the sights were nice and wooded, clean, and the beach areas were picturesque. However I had a few issues, one of which is that this Washington State Park takes reservations for every site, therefore if you just show up you can only register for one evening, and then check back the next day to make sure its not reserved and you can have it again. When we got there we easily found a open spot, but had to move the following day when the office told us it was reserved for that evening. The front check in building was only open from 9-11am, which added to the confusion, therefore it would be better off to have the place be 50/50 of reserved sites vs. first come first serve like many other parks. After two nights in our second spot, we were going to extend one more night, but again it was reserved, so we chose to catch the ferry. Issue two was that they need to remove a few trees that have very high potential of destroying larger motorhomes, that barely squeeze through the path, although several of the sites are plenty large for a big motor home. We were willing to reserve a site, but they want $8 to reserve + $5 for non-residents if doing it online, or $10 in person. We would stay there again however, but know a little more of what to expect next time. The location is very quiet, unless the jets are flying.
