We chose columbine campground because it had so many sites that were first come first serve and the original place we were going to camp was full. We stayed at site 30 which was at the inner edge of camp so the woods were to our right and a few tents to our left. Even though there were people there we felt like we had enough space to ourselves which was really nice. The bathrooms were well maintained and there was running water plus a Walmart 20 mins away and a few small markers in town culver close by.

This is a very nice campground. Plenty of fresh water, trash dumps, and toilets. My only complaint but it is a big one is the access road. Access to to campground entry is fine but the 1 mile to the campground is horrible like top speed of 6 to 8 mph.

We reserved site 19 through Recreation.gov for a Tuesday Night stay. We noticed that the campground was fairly empty except for the 2 campgrounds on each side of 19. What luck! We have a 30’ class C. The site was not level and it took several layers of block to get close to level. The groups on each side were there for a different type of camping than we were. I could tell it was going to be a noisy night and we prefer to hear the quiet. I asked the campground host if we could move and he was cool with it.
We ended up in site 46 in the next loop East. There were 2 other groups in that loop but it was quiet and ended up as a nice place to hang for the night.

We stayed here 2 nights while traveling to Kansas from California. Beautiful scenery, friendly camp hosts, clean place, and very inexpensive. Nearby town is nostalgic with small casinos, historic buildings, and friendly people. Definitely would stay here again if ever traveling through.

This campground has two loops with the second loop having a good number of "walk-up" spots which is great as it was booked up pretty early in the season. The campground has great access to Central City, Blackhawk, and Idaho Springs. One annoyance are the number of ATV's and OHV's that were going through the campground. It is near numerous trails so to be expected. For the most part all riders slowed speeds in the campground and followed the speed limit. Unfortunately there are idiots who need to be the exception. We did have a bear in the campground and in our spot one morning so some camping common sense should be used.
I only did one data test which was a Thursday afternoon but we got a download speed of 7.93 and upload of .37 through T-Mobile LTE.

The location was perfect, far enough away from the city, but still close enough to not have to spend hours in the car. Site was very clean, bathrooms were fully stocked with toilet paper. Each camp pad has picnic table, grill, and fire ring. There are plenty of trees around so it's never hard to find a little shade. We loved it here so much over Labor day weekend that we decided to come up again 2 weeks later. The camp host Carl and his wife were great. Really looking forward to coming back up to this site again with the next camping season.

The campsites were a decent size, but each seemed to have several on and off-road vehicles and probably 6-8 campers. Lots of noise from folks walking the sites and driving OHVs in and out. Several generators running all day, but no problems in the evenings (and we’re heavy sleepers). Probably a perfect campground for folks wanting to ride the trails. For us, it was average.

Group of campers partied with music and loud yelling till almost 2am. No camp host in site to deal w this. ATV and trucks speeding through the campground. Had to make sure my 2 year old was next to me at all times due to the high traffic volume and speed of ATV and vehicle speeds.
Overall if looking for a place to be loud and ride ATV this is perfect. If looking for quiet relaxation in the woods. Avoid at all costs. Too bad because campground was really nice and wooded.

“How The Heck Did You Get There?”
noted 6/9/2023
GPS took us through central city, past a reservoir and onto a forest road. I have no idea how I am seeing RVs in the photos; we were dragging branches down the sides and roof, and the ruts were more than we could handle in our Transit. Ended up turning around .5 miles from the campsite which was a disappointment. I would only do this with much higher clearance. I’m not sure if there is an alternate road in, or this one was just destroyed by a brutal winter, but beware
