Question about Coconino Rim Road Dispersed Camping

Ric asked on 2/16/2022

Are you able to access this from highway 64 in the park? I’ve always camped closer to Tusayan, but if I can access this dispersed camping from within the park, that seems preferable. Thanks!

yes. it is a short distance from 64 on a good gravel road. there are multiple good places to camp. near the fire tower are the better ones.

Yes, it’s right off of Hwy 64 with a fairly wide gravel/dirt access road into the dispersed camping area. Just be aware that it can get rutted during the wet/rainy periods as you venture further from the road. Great cell service (T-Mobile) as well.

Yes, you go in from 64 to Coconino Ron Road so it was a great location. Here’s the coordinates where we stayed if that helps. 35°57'44.5"N 111°57'53.2"W Safe travels!

Yes! You have to drive past the sign that says no camping until you exit the park boundary and enter the national forest. But when you enter the park again, you come back the same way, meaning no lines or ranger station!
