Roads are good and plenty of sites to choose from.

So you go six miles in, on a dirt road. It was raining, so it was muddy, with some deep holes which was scary. The view was great until the clouds blocked the view. Oh well. My husband is a great driver, but it still took 25 minutes to go six miles. On the way out this morning we met a pickup on the way out, it was very tight. We have ... more

I stayed for one night, just south of chimney rock & it was great. Once you enter on chimney road, you have miles worth of campsites to pick from. Before getting to the national forest, there’s state land that is camp-able from 9/1 - 2/29. That’s where I stayed. It was hunting season during my stay so basically filled with hunters but at night, it was very peaceful. Beautiful views of the mountains and aspens were changing colors. Didn’t see any wildlife but several signs noted moose had been seen in the area. 3 bars of 3G via AT&T.

The road up to the campground is very narrow and gravel. I am not sure how two RVs passing each other would fit (I’m glad we didn’t have to find out). But, there were hardly any cars using the road. We took our 24ft class C and found a great place with great views. We arrived on a Friday and there was no one around. The camp sites are spaced really far from each other (1/4 mile?).
One thing if you I have dogs- we had a lot of bones all around our campsite, and some fresh calf feet, so be prepared for that. I am assuming wolves get the cattle around the property. I had to constantly get bones out of my dogs mouths.
I would definitely recommend staying here! We will be coming back.

The rig that Van-Tramp photographed is mine. I spent the 4th of July weekend here. It was a fairly quiet spot until the crowds came up. I did have internet. I'm guessing it was 2bars of 3G. Wildlife in the area was great. Up the road towards the pass, I spooked two bears and they jumped onto the road.
Back at camp I heard a road grader and below camp a cow Moose and calf came out of the aspens.

This place is worth the couple miles of well graded gravel road to get there. No hope of a cell signal, but the views, trees, and flowers make it worth it. There are a few large sites as you enter the National Forest (clearly marked where Forest begins) some deep into trees and some not. Some of the access roads can be a bit pitted, so scout them first.
The pin on this map signals the START of the camping spots along this road. Following it North a few more miles will give you numerous choices of camping. The site in the photo I submitted is at 40.309268, -106.417749
While you could easily get away with a larger rig up here, if may be wise to scout it ahead of time to ensure you can fit.
